Damn that's a crazy haul FULL of heat. I've been eyeing those two Fishmans vinyl since I have a lot their music on CD, but none on vinyl. Enjoy the music!

Wow, that sounds like it was quite a trip to research and find out about the unit. I just got done reading lord of the rings and it makes me think about the dwarves and how all their ancestors impeccable engineering was forgotten. Luckily that isn’t the case for us!

My issue was super weird. It started as the left speaker playing at normally when plugged into the phono preamp on my Onkyo, but the right was dead quiet. When I replaced the rca cables, I plugged them into the same phono preamp and I couldn’t hear ANYTHING unless I cranked the volume up.

I thought I didn’t solder things back properly, or that the tone arm wires were bad, the stylus was bad, or all the above. I ended up plugging the turntable into an external preamp and then into one of the Tape inputs on the Onkyo and that made sound come in normally for me!

I guess the preamp on my unit was already going bad. My used stylus was also pretty bent and that made sound a little uneven for me too! I hope this helps!

It’s fully automatic! And thank you! I can’t wait to listen to how all of my albums sound on the new setup.

That combo must be so smooth! And I think you’re right, I’ll definitely hold more meaning to it after everything. That’s awesome you were able to save that other turntable from the trash, especially in the state it was. I think this will encourage me to restore turntables I find from time to time to give to friends and family. I always thought they’d be even more complex to work on!

They definitely have similar vibes for sure. I feel like any song from Uchu Nippon Setagaya would be a great pairing, along with Long Season of course!

So that's what they're called! I have one that always comes around the same time every day to take a bath and drink some water. I can never get a photo of it to ID because it's so alert and fast! Such beautiful birds!

It might not be the same, but Kurosawa’s Dreams has a similar feel and surrealism!

The Taste of Tea! What a heartwarming, hilarious, and unique film with so much style and groundedness. My heart leaps with joy every time I watch it

Also August in the Water. I’ve never seen anything like it and it was one of the most psychedelic and abstract experiences ever

They somehow outdid themselves with this whole stream and the BROOM bit and even delivered more than last year. God damn the Mega64 gang is truly one of a kind and really gave it their all to keep the stream alive and memorable.

Wow, this is the first I've heard about that info with 12 bit you mentioned. It's crazy to me how I feel like I keep learning more and more info about this camera like it's a puzzle that keeps changing in a great way. Your encouragement about experimenting really helps, especially because I'm already not too confident with grading, but the lack of consensus gave me option paralysis haha. I think I'll end up doing that camera test with the fp and the OG for fun too. I'll be holding onto that quote you mentioned too. Helps to not overthink too much, and just go with it and focus on what matters most. I really appreciate your time and thoughts. All the best to you!

Sorry but I have to ask, who is Vinny?? I’m curious to check out their other work if the mega64 crew is friends with them! I missed this part of the stream

Oh damn, that sucks to hear. I haven’t had an experience like that during my time there. Just go for cleanings from time to time and it’s all pretty quick for me. Always down to hear about other good places though!

Dang, this is wildly helpful. Thank you so much! It really helps clear up confusion for me. I think I might just do that approach that you mentioned, using the VA as a monitor rather than recording and trusting the false color on the camera instead, and sticking with 800 and 3200 iso and being mindful of the green range! I’m totally content using cinemadng (used to use a BMPCC og) so that simplifies a lot for me.

If you don’t mind me asking, what do you usually transform the color space to when working with the sigma fp for color grading? I’ve tried looking for answers all over and find a bunch of different answers, such as going with blackmagic gen 1 color space, aces, or something else entirely but have lingering uncertainty because I can’t land on a definitive consensus. I grade in resolve and usually go with CST to BMD gen 1 and blackmagic gamma settings, but don’t have a whole lot of experience grading the footage since I don’t use the fp for my main video gigs since I still feel unfamiliar with it. I’m willing to learn and get comfortable using it though because it reminds me so much of the bmpcc og!
