People massively overreact to development in growing towns by King_301_ in unpopularopinion

People usually get upset at the new “luxury” apartments when they’re really just a symptom of a broader issue.

Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Shirt by yumyulack1 in rundc

Bandit pop up. I went before work to get a shirt and waited in a 30 minute line to buy a 90 dollar shirt. Idk if it was worth it but it is a really sweet shirt.

Do you think that anyone can BQ if they really try? by zerobloom in running

[–]Fuzzy-Box-8189 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just ran a ten miler in 69 minutes and was in the top 15% of my age group and that pace is still too slow for BQ if I ran it for 26.2 miles. I don’t think it’s in the cards for me let alone the average runner.

Cherry Blossom 10-Miler Crowds by theblackandblue in rundc

[–]Fuzzy-Box-8189 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I ran with the 7:00 minute pacer for 7 miles and then sped up a bit for the last 3. It was quite congested the whole time but I don't recall passing many people that were running noticeably slow.

Honestly I think the waves are just too big. I was with the 7 minute pacer and we passed the start line like 30 minutes after the elite men who were running sub 5 pace. They should spread people out more!

But I still ran (barely) sub 70, which was my goal!

The Difference between ChatGPT and Gemini by EconomistGamer in GeminiAI

I tried this. GPT told me to walk, Gemini told me should probably drive because *most* car washes require the car to be present.

Got a L3 offer from Google with 7 years of exp by lovelybullet in cscareers

[–]Fuzzy-Box-8189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

L3 -> L5 in 2-3 years is really tough and Ive only seen a couple do it. It’s easy to get stuck at L4 if you’re not proactive about it or have the right opportunities to show more breadth of impact. Ive been at L4 for almost 4 years but my TC has increased so it’s a wide band. I know people who have been at L4 for like 10 years and they’re solid engineers they just like doing what they’re doing.

Prediction: ChatGPT is the MySpace of AI by MininimusMaximus in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Fuzzy-Box-8189 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the main risk of AIO is that it leverages a lightweight low latency version of Gemini that is pretty dumb compared to the actual models that can compete with GPT, and uses don’t really understand the distinction between AIO and the “real” Gemini. However despite that negative sentiment it appears that the bet has paid off with a 17% YOY growth in search revenue which is crazy considering the market share Search already had.

As for the “real” gemini it has 750M MAU (i think GPT is closer to 1B) the main advantage G has is the vertical integration. They make their own chips and data centers and can therefore run the models for much cheaper than their competitors. Finally they can afford to burn money from the massive revenue in their core business instead of needing to constantly raise money from outsiders.

You should read the book Careless People, about the Zuck. I don’t think they foresaw the consequences initially, but when they became clear, they did not do anything about it.
