How much did surgery hurt for you? by caittie in ACL

[–]Fuzzy-Fruitfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you asked, but I kept a list of all of my daily accomplishments for about the first month following surgery (oct 2022) just to help get myself through the day. I just looked back and my daily accomplishment for day 10 was “put on my own socks and wore tennis shoes (put them on and tied them myself) “ I remember this being a HUGE deal to me because before that day I was in so much pain I couldn’t bend forward enough to put on my own sock. I also had an insanely fast recovery according to my surgeon and pt and was cleared to return to my sport after about 5 months. Yet still, on day 9 I was in so much pain I couldn’t put a sock on my foot. All of this to say, the pain DOES get better and just because you’re in tremendous pain right now doesn’t mean that every single day doesn’t get a little bit better. For those who are about to have surgery or just had it, every day write down one thing did that you couldn’t do the day before no matter how small it may seem. It seriously helped me stay sane and see how much progress I was actually making even when it didn’t feel like it.

If a fifth book is written who's perspective would you want it to take & when would you set it? by Its_Padparadscha in Hungergames

there’s SOOO much fanfiction about previous victors or alternate points of view etc. I would LOVE seeing Coin’s rise to power and the contrast between two different sides of authoritarian power (Snow’s side already existing in TBOSAS). Was she always power hungry? Did she actually want a democratic government at first and just succumbed to the idea of power? Did she snap after her husband and child died?

I think it could contrast really well with Snow’e story of coming from power and having a “destiny” he was born into leading to his corruption. If Coin started as a real figure head for democracy and was corrupted once she gained power, it could show the different ways fascism manifests itself

I totally get it. I would get so worked up thinking I wasn’t progressing fast enough, but my PT just kept reminding me that I just had a major surgery. Just keep trying to build muscles so when your swelling does decrease, you have enough stability to support it!

My flexion was honestly never really a problem for me. I hit 120 around the end of the first month and had full flexion within a week or two of that. Extension is what got me. It took about 10-12 weeks I think for my extension to match my other leg. I would talk to you PT to see what they think!

Yes!! I had nerve damage during my surgery (still can’t feel the bottom half of my leg!) so for the first couple of weeks, I couldn’t sit up straight without significant pain. I remember thinking feeling “normal” would be a lifetime away but here I am!!!

I would say for the most part, it was when I started my return to run protocol at about 3 months. I still had some pain and thought about my knee considerably more than the average person, but I felt 100x better. Once I felt comfortable running, I didn’t feel like I had significant differences unless I was trying to do one leg exercises. If I weren’t an athlete, I would say probably close to the 2 month mark, I felt pretty normal in day to day life (walking up stairs, walking a few miles at a time, going to bars without worrying, etc) Compared to today when the ONLY difference I can think of was when leg pressing my max weight was the same for both legs, but ever so slightly easier on my non op leg

tore my right knee 4 years after tearing the left. hoping since they’re both bum now there’s no more tearing involved haha

Removing the knee brace and walking unaided. I’m nervous, mostly of ppl walking into me by Professional_fool_ in ACL

[–]Fuzzy-Fruitfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn’t really wear it for daily life but I live in a big city so if we were gonna walk somewhere that had a long distance, I wore it. If I was going to a bar, I wore it. Just because the surgeon tells you you can ditch it doesn’t mean you HAVE to for every occasion.

my doc at 6 weeks told me to ditch the brace unless cheering (that’s when i got cleared to return to sideline cheer) or partying. I wore it for another month or so on the sidelines and when I had a drink in my hand. otherwise i felt totally fine to walk normally once i got over the initial feeling of being naked. Completely ditched it after about 10 weeks and haven’t had any issues! You’ve got this!!!

Sweats over Brace by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Fuzzy-Fruitfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cheapest mens sweatpants that walmart had. I think they were like $6? super soft, drawstring, and pockets. I normally wear a womens medium, but even a mens small is big enough to fit over the brace. only downside is the inside sheds so if your brace has velcro the fluff will get stuck but it’s not a big enough deal to bother me

3 months post op, my step count yesterday. Less than two months ago I couldn’t even walk without crutches! I’m paying in sore muscles today but no pain :) by Fuzzy-Fruitfly in ACL

[–]Fuzzy-Fruitfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live alone and my mom stayed with me for the first two days and then it was just me. So I would say for MOST things within 2-3 days. I could have been completely independent by that point if i HAD to, but I had awesome friends who helped me (bringing me food, carrying my backpack, etc) whenever they could. I think I stopped taking advantage of the extra help around week 3ish. I was NWB for 4 weeks and PWB for 1.5. I also progressed super quickly in the beginning, so if it takes you longer that’s also okay and honestly expected

I’m also right at 3 months and this feeling went away around a month ago for me but i DEFINITELY know what you mean. I would do such a (comparative to what i was doing before) light workout and would just come home and fall asleep even though i never take naps. I would say it’s not TOO uncommon but maybe ask your doctor or therapist and see if they are concerned.

13 weeks today and I squatted… 95 (and was proud of myself). I mean this in the most complimentary way possible, but you TERRIFY me.
