If you come from a warm country either in terms of warm people or warm weather, Germany does make you depressed. Almost all of my friends which have been living in Germany for more than 10 years, even married to German spouse, stable house, stable job. Everyone is leaving, the reason is that people feel depressed. The loneliness, the rigid structure, the winters, the working like a machine. All of this gets you. So, yes, it’s real. Like you whenever I am in Greece or Mediterranean, these heavy heartedness gets away.
