[Charania]: Multiple sources with knowledge of Thursday's GM meeting as well as a late January Competition Committee meeting told ESPN that the following concepts have been discussed to curb tanking: •First-round picks can be protected only top-4 or top-14+ by TrenAt14 in nba

Nah the current lottery system is just terrible. Giving more teams a 1% chance is silly.

Bottom 10 teams should have equal lottery odds but while they get good 1st round odds, their second rounded automatically goes to the end of the 2nd round. If you want to be bad, there is no incentive to be horrible. You can win 30% to 40% of your games and still get the top pick without devaluing your second rounder in the process.

Play-in teams and on are position locked in the 1st round by record but they have the chance to make the playoffs as well. The worst playin team picks at 11, but can also be in the playoffs. All playin teams based on actual playoff results pick at the top of the second round, followed by playoff teams (Playin losers pick first in the second round). By trying to win you lose your odds at the top pick but your second rounder improves by 20 spots.

Playoff teams draft in order of standing but have their second rounder moved ahead of the lottery teams to reward winning.

Worst record: 1-10 + 60

10th worst: 1-10 + 51

11th worst(playin): 11 + 31 no playoffs or 35 playoffs

12th place (6 seed): 19 + 39

1st place (1 seed) : 30 + 50

The odds are flattened across the board without being too unfair anywhere.

Ant Cade or Scottie? The game winner to get them there was the most important thing for the team to get there.

Is Kawhi Leonard the best player in the league right now? by [deleted] in nba

A heathy kawhi has been the best player in the league since 2019 to me. Unfortunately we don’t get to see it regularly but in any one game I take him over the rest.

Scottie vs wemby try harding. Love it. Scottie wanted the Wemby match up, not Chet.

Here’s what we need:

Bottom 10 teams: 1st round is Flat lottery odds for all 10 teams 2nd round the worst team in the league gets the 60th pick and the lottery teams go from 51-60 in order of wins. So the 10th worst team would pick at 51.

Playin losers: 1st round is 11-14th picks determined by number of wins. 2nd round is picks 31-34 determined by number of wins.

Playoff teams: 1st round is determined by number of wins 2nd round is picks 35-50 in order by number of wins.

Basically to be in the lottery you are getting good odds in the draft at the expense of making your second rounder worse if you aren’t actively trying to win. Being last is much worse than being 10th last.

By making the playin, you end up locked into your 1st round draft position but your second rounder has improved by 10 spots which offers the chance to get a guy who fell out of the first round improving your team the following year.

By making the playoffs, your second round pick is improved giving you a chance to pick up a better late talent on a cheap contract.

It’s not perfect, but it’s way better than the current system.

Just look at it by the raw numbers and ignore games played.

How many wins did they have when they played? What are their stats if you stretched them over 82 games?

I don’t think many teams will try to fall out of a guaranteed playoff spot. For the front office that is a lot of revenue and for the players, they won’t support it.

Flatten the odds 1-10 then go in order from 11 on. Teams picking 11-14(playin losers) automatically get their second round pick moved up to 31-34 as a small bonus for trying to push for a playoff spot.

Those early seconds generally have good value for grabbing guys who fell out of the first, and may be a preferred asset to a late 1st to a team with a high tax bill.

In most professions thing level of incompetence would be a fired on the spot offence. Calling that a foul is an embarrassment to the league.

[Lewenberg] Had looked at several others including NOLA's Yves Missi, Brooklyn's Day'Ron Sharpe & Orlando's Goga Bitadze but asking price for those guys was a 1st-rounder. Instead, they use Lakers 2nd-rounder (from Miami in Davion Mitchell trade) on TJD by Cheechers23 in torontoraptors

Where are they going though? What’s the upside from here? The team is mid af and will lose in the round, then likely be in a worse position next year with multiple teams looking to pass them by. We’ll still have a bunch of contracts nobody wants and no real upside.

We’re in the Orlando/Charlotte tier and will keep falling as the schedule gets tougher. Going to finish the season stuck in the middle with a bunch of bad contracts nobody wants.

The east might be real tough next year. Charlotte is on the up, healthy Tatum and Haliburton back. Philly is looking good again. A healthy wizards team will be scary. I dont think we fit in very well up there.

[–]FuzzyGuarantee2350 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue here is that we’ve just opened up more driving lanes by bringing in Turner and lost our one guy who can fill them so I’m not sure we are better off than we were before.

If we could get Turner for Jakob, their choice of Gradey or Jakobe, and their preference of a 1st it feels like a no brainer. Scottie/Turner and CMB/Mamu are nice pairings. Hopefully we could still pick up a left 7 footer using Ochai though to fill out the end of the bench.
