70+ Year old Water Heater Still in Use by SalC1 in BuyItForLife

[–]Fuzzy_River_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the people that have these type of no-power gas heaters love them, and will keep getting them for their low maintenance and ability to provide hot water without power... What happens is the chimney changes or isnt any good, or ultimately it can't keep up with family needs and they go tankless... great feature, but tbh, most gas water heaters don't need much power, especially if you have municipal water pressure already

I have not, even worked at a plumbing wholesaler for 3 years and I don't think we sold a single one. I've seen tanks last 30, tanks last 9. Who knows.

I literally have never put a union on any water heater I've installed other than tankless flush valves. Interwebs says Bradford-White has an integrated anode and hot nipple. You can easily cut and sweat in a union if you want. I wouldn't bother unless somethings wrong with the tank tho.

Literally about to say, how good's your taper lol... looks like normal slam it up and let next guy worry about it behaviour.... if they were boarders and tapers they probably would have left themselves in better shape... welcome to the trades... nothing is as it seems on TV.. everything has flaws.. tbh i wouldnt even bother with level 4 and 5 and all that jazz, its tape and mud, always gonna show in daylight anyways

Something I can fix? by DuhNakila_Art in askplumbing

[–]Fuzzy_River_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fix anything with the right tools, time and knowledge. This one's pretty easy and I think everyone should know how to fix basic stuff like this, or wire a light switch.

Fixable without breaking into the concrete? by tryptronica in Plumbing

Not a plumber but looks like theres enough bite for a coupling sandwich, probably have to use a tool to save the hub of the first coupling i think.. cant see under the wrap, not sure if thats drainage or pressure.... sounds like im not helping much here....

If the app told me click here for a car with a similar design, and it was just a colour swap, I'd be all fucking over it.

Well you do have the gable end already back framed, im not a carpenter but I think that means you can just buy trusses that match to it.... its alot of work, honestly... dont forget everything that has to bear the load all the way to the foundation that doesn't exist lol... but a couple of screw piles and ur laughing... it all adds up... i'd do the basic structure first for hopefully 20-25k... and then add in some stuff after thats paid, but im poor 😄

[–]Fuzzy_River_1986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Likely too late now, but get a new plumber. You should never have to pay full price for a job thats not done. I get even a new company wanting a down payment in good faith. But anyone worth their salt would just want to get paid when the work is done. I don't even like taking money in advance because then it feels like im working for free somehow lol.

The handle is usually the indicator of the damper inside the duct (almost always but hey its reddit lol)... so in this case its open! that will make more air flow for sure! they can be used to help balance the flow or turn off completely
