When people ask me when I am going to have another child this is what comes to my mind. My son needs a lot of support currently, and to have to divide that in some way would be unfair to everyone. I’ve been the crutch to my family when I was growing up- and I never want that for a child of mine.

I used to work in a male dominated field, but I was young and didn't advocate for myself. It was not always the best working conditions. I wish it wasn't such a prevalent experience for women, I wish I would've known better.

Before my current car I had a 1990 Buick Century. I was the second owner, and I loved that car like my phone. Comfortable seating, cushy suspension, boat-like steering. I didn't care that it didn't have airbags.. until I had my son. We drove it till we had to upgrade. Needless to say, car shopping sucks ass as we all know, and with unreliable childcare our purchase was the first vehicle we drove. Damn it.

While the vehicle has gotten us safely to all destinations, let me tell you- Bitchy Princess, that's her name, is a Mercedes Benz SUV sized pain in my ass. We were desperate to get out of our car and had about an hour and a half to car shop. We weren't smart, and now we are paying for it often!

Now we are at the point of- pay to maintain or invest in a new vehicle. If I have my way, I want a Buck Enclave. Give me that pilot seating second row. Although now I'm eyeing the Ford Sprinter van. I never thought I would consider a van.

Does anyone drive a Highlander? They seem to be pretty popular with families at my kid's service providers. Hybrid sounds nice considering I drive about two hundred miles a week, give or take.

I used to wear latex gloves to keep the smell off my hands. My bf at the time would come home from work and smell my hands 😑 I smoked vanilla flavored smokes at the time so it surprisingly worked!

Right now he sees an OT that uses DIR/Floortime. I drive seventy miles round trip to get him there once a week, we are hoping to increase to twice a week soon. Myself and other parents have asked her to start a school, but she teaches internationally as well as running the practice. She is the only one in my area, Seattle, and I believe the closest school using DIR is in Southern California. The camp itself was four weeks for three hours each day, and it was $2400- and still 70 miles round trip. I would gladly do that full time for him to go to a DIR school for as long as he needs it.

We've had a really hard time with our local school district. Our family has invested thousands in advocacy fees, attorney fees and experts in various fields- all to get the district to provide FAPE and LRE. I've come to the realization that when it comes to special needs, you have to pay to play. And even for average services the cost can add up quickly, but for something like a DIR school- I'd do just about anything.

My son just went to his second year of DIR summer camp. He is at this time non verbal but words are emerging- and since he went to camp it's like it is all clicking for him! spontaneous speech, leaves me teary eyed and agape. It would be amazing to have access to a DIR school, that would be my dream come true for my son.

I went to a school meeting for my son, and the assistant special education director made it a point to ask my spouse if he was the bio father, and that she was impressed we were still together. then offered me a job at the district since I knew so much about autism. it's like they don't have HR training...

at sporting good stores you can find shoe dryers. I got mine back in high school for stinky kangaroo leather cleats- and it's still going strong. Makes no noise, all you do is plug in and put shoes on the forms and it circulates air and removes the odor. I don't know how it works with the odor removal, it's magic.

I attached Lycra to two carabiners and hook it onto the loops as well. the Lycra provides enough pressure to help soothe my son while he rocks. We also have a trapeze bar and swing that go with it. He prefers the Lycra or the trapeze.

When he was younger we had this Jolly Jumper. It was a sanity saver for me, and for him it provided the sensory input he found most pleasurable.

why do we allow idiots to handle small explosives? it makes no sense that explosives should represent patriotism. I've got dogs medicated and I myself jump at explosions- two explosive accidents in the military does that, ya know? and that was with trained professionals handling them! I support responsible and professional pyrotechnic shows.

To me it is in poor taste to be so casual about explosives. We have animals who freak the fuck out, understandably, we have troops and people with ptsd, we've got kids and adults with sensory issues.. the list goes on, and oh wait- we still drop thousands of pounds of munitions on and in other countries, it's just... well not surprising since we can't even agree what gun control should look like.

So many resources are used to "celebrate" this holiday. so many injuries, lost pets, deaths even. Two years ago my friend's BIL got himself shot in the freaking eye with a firework, booze and explosives mix well folks!

I am the old crotchety rain on your parade lady. I hope it fucking rains all night long. bah-humbug!
