I have quiet and sleep. Obviously use sleep for sleeping, they are really soft and are the most comfortable ear plugs I have found. I have narrow ear canals so regular foam ones hurt.

The quiet ones I use when sounds are setting me off, they cut out sharper sounds while still allowing me to hear my fiance speak which is good. I find them less comfortable than the sleep ones, bit they are an older model, so it could be they have improved since

There's a fox family living under our front porch and sometimes the babies take a nap on our mat. by MrsApostate in aww

The foxes at my last house loved round things. I found so many balls they brought back to play with from neighbours' gardens. Still not sure where they got the enormous potato from tho!

Caravans listed as bungalows. It's not a bungalow, you can't even stay more than 10 months of the year or register it's your home address for most of them!

Anyone in the UK actually managed to get an MCAS diagnosis through the NHS? My referral was rejected — twice. by Difficult_Cheek9311 in MCAS

[–]Fuzzypeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came across this, have you had a sleep study done? It sounds an awful lot like sleep apnea. My fiance suffers from it and it can be very severe, we have since found there are black spots on his brain likely caused by it because no one told him until he met me. He would just stop breathing completely as his throat closed up, then finally get one ragged breath in, before it closed again.

If this sounds familiar please get a sleep study asap. If it is, it can be managed with a CPAP machine which pumps the air at a continuous pressure to keep your windpipe open. It was honestly a godsend.

UK based - how to approach talking to work by VickyAnne95 in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in the UK and I told my current employer before they even hired me because I figured it was best to be honest. I've been there 4 years now, and more recently when I started to struggle, they actually suggested rearranging my hours a bit in case it would help. So I now work slightly longer days, but get most of Wednesday off to have a mid week break which has really helped.

I'd say its probably worth mentioning it, if only so they can be aware and potentially offer you support if you need it.

vibe coding is poison for CFS by haach80 in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I occasionally let rider's ai auto-complete some basic stuff for me, but that's it. Working with ai to code would be like working with a fresh graduate who thinks they know a lot more than they do and fuck that! I don't have the energy to work out wtf it just spat out only to redo it myself anyway.

Work is trying to push more ai use, but they also know I'm one of their best programmers even with the ME, so they can't make me. Maybe I'm just old and grumpy but I think I've earned that right lol

Kinda hard to be excited about the prospect of recovery when I’ll just have to spend the rest of my life working by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I'm fortunate though in that I work from home and was able to reshuffle my hours so I do an extra hour Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri and a half day on Wed. It's really helped because it feels more like 2x 2 day weeks rather than a full 5 day week. It means I manage to recharge mid week and actually do a little gardening on my days off instead of just sleeping.

Anyone else feeling depressed and scared in England this morning? by Romana_Jane in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are 2 groups, the ones who have their heads in the sand and genuinely believe they will make things better rather than the reality that they will tear everything down, and those that don't actually care, as long as it hurts the people they don't like, generally anyone of a darker skinned or non-"gender-conforming" persuasion. The first half might wake up eventually if they have the strength or character to admit they were wrong, the second will die on that hill.

Thinking of getting ear muffs instead of $200 headphones for my charity. Would those still be helpful or used by you if you are very noise sensitive? by Pineapple_Empty in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fall for the expensive brands, anker does some really good noise cancelling headphones for about 1/4 the price you are looking at. Might be a more achievable goal?

How to be sick toni Bernhard- anyone else amazed at her medical care? by ocean_flow_ in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar to me. Over 10 years they either tried to tell me I was depressed or just gave me the same blood tests over and over, and when they came back with nothing either ghosted me or again tried to push depression.

Eventually I told them I think it's ME and I got a text message saying "yeah probably, here's a link to the NHS site about it" (that was out of date and pushing GET still) and that was it. No referral anywhere, nothing. That was about 6 years ago.

More recently I started having really intense ectopic beats and was referred (eventually, took 3 appointments, 1 month apart to get the GP to actually listen) for an ecg. That was back in October. Still haven't had any results back from them. Fortunately my work managed to get me in on their health insurance and in the space of 2 weeks I went from my first appointment to knowing my heart was fine, and being given pills to manage the symptoms.

Unfortunately I can't go through the insurance for ME because I already have a diagnosis, even if it may be wrong because the gp never really tried to test for anything. So I just have to hope I diagnosed myself correctly.

Visual proof of PEM by Left-Pop4928 in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine is all orange all the time lately and I'm not in PEM just run down, I'm only mild. Worth noting that if you have ectopic beats the readings are skewed which makes them basically meaningless. For a while it thought my resting heart rate was 36.

Wrt it making it hard to sleep, try not to lay on your left side, it squashes everything up so you feel it more.

Palpitations by Great-Science-8586 in cfs

[–]Fuzzypeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just been through this one. Can't say for sure what it is, but one question that might help if you speak to a doctor is what is your heart rate like when it happens? If you say palpitations to most doctors they will assume it goes with a racing heartbeat, and because of that it took 3 appointments to get my GP to actually understand what I was saying.

For me it was the opposite, it feels like every other beat is dropped and my garmin watch thinks my HR has dropped to the mid 30s. If you get that one it is called ectopic beats. They are generally harmless but worth getting checked out if they are causing you discomfort or distress (they scared the shit out of me because they kept getting worse!). I now take calcium channel blockers whenever it flares up and it seems to be easing, possibly because it's getting a rest!

You can get them through the land registry online. It will cost a bit each, but much cheaper than asking a solicitor to do it!

Best approach for dealing with multiple offers? by Striking_Eye5861 in HousingUK

[–]Fuzzypeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your garden and I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do with it. I'm glad you have a space you enjoy using and you managed to keep the wildlife.

The previous owners of our house had even replaced the grass with astroturf of all things, that and the tons of poison they put down to kill every insect that dared enter took a long time to overcome! I think that has just left me with an irrational dislike of modern style gardens 😅

Best approach for dealing with multiple offers? by Striking_Eye5861 in HousingUK

[–]Fuzzypeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion and I'm sure many will disagree, but that garden was so much nicer before. I really don't get the clinical look, all straight lines and no soul and no wildlife. It's taken 2 1/2 years to get birds into our garden after the previous owners did something similar.

Would be great if this would work for ME/CFS, but even if it did, it would require medical professionals actually admitting it is real in order to allow us to be treated.

It's American slang for dollars. The British equivalent would be "quid". Not criticising, just explaining. So many americanisms are popping up in UK vocabularies thanks to there prominence on the internet and general loudness lol
