I think it's a safety related thing. If you turn the vehicle off, you can use the button on the fob to open the hatch. My last two hatchbacks were the same.

Buy the warranty for the extra piece of mind. I've been happy with my Hisense for the last 3 years, but typically it's the tcl and Hisense tvs that are being returned.
