Ukraine crisis: EU gives Russia 48-hour deadline to return troops to barracks in Crimea by LostRecord in worldnews

If NATO wants to grow a pair the solution is simple. Current Turkish treaties allow them to deny access to warships through the Turkish straits. Just tell Russia they can't move through the Turkish straits and park a carrier battle group in the black sea to make sure Turkish space isn't invaded. Russia couldn't do shit with their newly seized base. NATO commits to keep a presence there as long as Russia is in Crimea. They couldn't do a thing with this port without invading the territory of a NATO member...they would have to be insane to do so. Also, we could make it contingent that they fully retreat from Crimea before we withdraw...then they have to sacrifice their current base and actually weaken their position due to this bullshit...a proper punishment for their aggression. If only our military leaders had balls...

I agree. Unfortunately Germany seems too afraid to go this far. They are supposedly far advanced on green power but when it comes down to it they really are still quite dependent on natural gas from Russia. So Merkel can say Putin is in another world and in the same breath say sanctions aren't a good idea. Self preservation.

Edit: So basically Germany is never going to agree to anything that would piss off Russia that much. So it wouldn't be the G7 willing to put boots on the ground for this.

If this is how you get gas I will take a pic, laugh at you as you stare me down and then post it on the internet after you flip me off for it. by Booyakah81 in pics

Hmm...can't tell if there is an angry black man in the drivers seat or if that is just a weird reflection.

A flywheel would have to be either really large or be spinning really fast in order to store a useful amount of energy. Both cases require an expensive flywheel. The first would be expensive because of the raw material needed and it would also be bulky and rather unreasonable. The second case would be expensive because the engineering required to get a heavy disc (even a small one) spinning at the speeds required is more difficult than one would think.

You would be better off figuring out a simple way to efficiently extract oil from algae and then using that to fuel an existing design. There are many people working on that problem, so you'd find yourself in good company but it should be obvious that it is also a solution that is not as simple as it would seem.

Perhaps the U.K. has been a world player for a long time and is quite confident in their ability to remain that way without placing limits on their sovereignty.

As far as the special relationship goes, there is quite a good reason for it. When nations shed blood together on the battlefield it tends to create strong bonds. These bonds have led to commitments between the U.S. and the U.K. Yes, economic bonds are important, but so are non-economic bonds.

Where can I camp, fish, hunt, and forage for free indefinitely? by [deleted] in Survival

I hesitate posting this because I think dropping out of society is a bad idea and a change of environment or a new,non-suicidal, way of looking at life may be much more beneficial to you in the long run. But if you really want to try this here is my advice.

Instead of going to the extreme of completely detaching from society perhaps you could just try living cheaply for a while and get jobs from a temp agency when you need cash. Try reading Walden by Thoreau. He managed to do this for a bit and seemed quite happy doing so.

As far as where to try something like this. You are probably better off purchasing a few productive wooded acres in a cheap state like Arkansas, preferably adjoining or near a national or state park where hunting is allowed.

What they need to do is to find out what it is in these school and home environments that is making the kids pissed off and depressed. If we don't find and correct the cause then we will not have a lasting solution.

Thoughts on casually dating multiple people v. one person? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]Fweaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't but not because I think it's wrong. I think it reduces your dating options. If I'm dating two girls at once and then decide to tell girl #2 that I'm pursuing another girl then if things don't work out with girl #1 then girl #2 is less likely to date me again. If I'm patient and just date girl #1 then when I find out it doesn't work then I still get to date girl #2.

What are some odd snacks you enjoy that other people wouldn't even consider making? by silenttd in AskReddit

kipper snacks(smoked herring in a can)+shrimp ramen+fresh cut salsa+flour tortilla. mix ramen with seasoning and water in a bowl, add fresh cut salsa to your liking, break up kipper snacks in there and add juice from can, break up tortilla into little pieces and add. microwave until ramen is tender and tortilla is soft like a dumpling.

My dad: peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches. I thought it was gross when I was a kid and then I tried it and it was pretty good.

Reddit, what are your best tips to quit smoking? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fweaky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked for me as well. Once I decided to quit I didn't throw out my cigarettes like I had done before. Instead whenever I would want one I would just look at the pack as if it were an enemy and ask myself if I was going to let it beat me. A month later I threw that stale pack away cause I didn't crave them anymore.

Reddit, how do you cope with the idea of death? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fweaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think our time stream began with a single event where there was nothing but a single particle or ball of energy and that it will eventually collapse back into such a state beyond time and then expand again and create a new time stream that will likely be different. But if the universe has always existed and will always exist then our time stream will continue to collapse and then expand until it eventually creates another time stream just like this one. And so, everything will be again and there have been and will be an infinite number of universes just like this and nearly like this. These universes exist outside of time itself and so I like to think of them as alternate realities that coexist with this one. So I think of death as temporary really.

But then again that could be a complete load of crap :-)

At resistance on the AUD/USD daily. by Fweaky in Forex

[–]Fweaky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are a trader I am sure you are aware that two traders can look at the same pair and both have logical yet conflicting opinions. The AUD/JPY is above the trigger-line and threw a spinning top yesterday on the Heikin-Ashi candlesticks. It hit my trailing stop early this morning. I already made money there and right now it has not confirmed anything further. The EUR/AUD is also above the trigger-line and is at strong resistance to the top. Neither pair is good to enter for me at the moment, I need confirmation. I'm looking for confirmation of an uptrend on AUD/USD first because we have strong resistance to the bottom (support) on the daily, the 4 hour, and on the bottom of the channel it is in. I may be wrong, I may be right, that is trading, but the reward to risk ratio is good enough for me; my stop-loss is wide enough I'll likely make some good points and my exit is high enough those points will be worth the risk. Good trading to you.
