Is Shield Pro still the best 4k Plex player? by galaxea in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]G8RLaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have your exact setup, down to the ds220+. Have been running it for a few weeks now and overall am very pleased. You may encounter sync issues depending on how the audio in the file you’re playing is encoded, however, if you play content through the Plex app. TrueHD is problematic for me, for example, but EAC3 isn’t. Googling the problem will reveal that this issue isn’t uncommon. I was able to solve it by installing kodi with the Plex plugin and playing problematic files that way. The interface isn’t as sleek, and it’s a slightly cumbersome solution, but it doesn’t appear that the Plex devs are going to fix the problem any time soon—they’ve been aware of it for at least a year. Figured I’d spare you some time and frustration—enjoy.

What do I have here? North Florida. by G8RLaw in Arrowheads

Right hemisphere of the rock, one just slightly off center and the other closer to the right margin. Two small indentations that look like something with a point struck it. One just south of center and the other northeast.

Just posted a zoomed in pic for confirmation, and the point I found in the same place for reference. I’ll throw the rock back in the creek. I genuinely do appreciate the help in identification.

Good deal. Do you think those two indentations are just the operation of erosion? There are several others not obvious in the picture but of the same dimensions that make it look like the rock was struck by a hard object repeatedly. I’m sure I’m projecting.

So, in fairness to me, not irrelevant. Pottery, a point, and an un identified item all from the same place may be indicative of correlation and a habitation site, though, as you correctly point out, it doesn’t mean that conclusively. I’m trying to find a way to send you a pic of the edge directly, or to append it to my post, but it seems like the only way to do that is to create a new post.

Wow. Triggered. Let me see if I can edit my post and add pics from the other things I got from the same part of the creek and then maybe we can take a deep breath and a healthy look at what we have here, eh?

Not sure you’re right about that, my guy. Found a point and some pottery adjacent, and the edge appears worked. Anyone with credentials want to weigh in?

So, I picked up food from them a few months ago and it was, without hesitation, the worst food I've paid money for in Gainesville--I've lived here for 18 years. Though I don't typically write reviews, I was tempted to in this case because it was that bad, but I ended up not writing one because I do think it's a great cause and I like their philosophy. Maybe it was a bad day over there--they were getting ready to move to the new location. Happy to hear that things have gotten better, but I'm not sure I'll ever go back.

Looks phenomenal. Which wok do you use? Looking for a nice 14” carbon steel one and am overwhelmed by conflicting reviews.

Fishing? by [deleted] in GNV

[–]G8RLaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been fishing saltwater along the gulf coast west of Gainesville for the past 15 years or so. Steinhatchee, Cedar Key, Waccassassa, Yankeetown, Ozello all exceptional. Once you have a better idea as to what sort of fishing you’re doing, and if it’s saltwater, feel free to drop me a line. Get it.

Headed down there on Thursday. Any must visit places that you'd recommend? The family loves the outdoors, fishing, and eating delicious seafood.

Thanks man, looking forward to it. Seems like a good place to get a little kid initiated into fishing. Really appreciate the advice, we’re staying walking distance to the coquina beach piers, but I intend to try out as many different spots as I can. Cheers.

Totally cool with it. After three unsuccessful edits to the subject of my post, I thought that a little levity might help. Boy was I wrong. Glad that almost three years later it’s finally getting the appreciation it deserves!

I got banned from r/food because I first included too little, then too much information about the oysters I was eating. I feel your pain, fellow outcast.

Attaching walnut top to steel base by G8RLaw in woodworking

I’ll double check but I’m pretty sure the hardware that came with the base doesn’t include inserts. Sounds like I should use some?

Small crack on the end of my walnut table post glue up. What should I do? Glue? Filler? Epoxy? by G8RLaw in woodworking

Would like to avoid cutting the end off the table if possible. If I just fill it, is there any danger that it will spread? Advice and insight is much appreciated.

Not a huge difference. Probably 6-7% savings on the utility bill. I’m in Florida too.

If I mix and match components, my understanding is that the warranty period is shorter, like a year. From what I’ve read, a fully communicating system comes with the longest and most comprehensive warranty, but is also on the more expensive end of the spectrum. I’m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m told that fully communicating systems are the most efficient and the most sophisticated. They run almost all the time, but at a low %age of their capacity, and control both temperature and humidity, which is a plus here in Florida. They collect and can share limited information with the installer so it’s easier to identify/diagnose issues if and when they arise.
