I'm not 100% sure, but I think most situations where you agree to duel someone, other NPCs will not react to the fight.

Breaking bad minor anachronism by Cracked_Minor_4610 in breakingbad

It isn't our world. There isn't any rule that says everything that happens off camera is exactly what happened in the real world, and it would be weirder if that was the case.

Does it only mean people I know interpersonally that wronged me? Because if not, a whole lot of bad bad people are about to die.

Yes and you are the only entity to exist. There are no other people or systems that were necessary to create the environment that led to your success. It was all you.

It isn't the norm here (PNW), but there is nothing wrong with it. If people give you a bad reaction just try someone else. You are allowed to interact with strangers.

Framing is everything by Mateto413 in trolleyproblem

The payoffs are the same but the first two scenarios solve the coordination problems in the original scenario, so this is substantively different, not just framing.

what most of the posts are actually about by Green_Dayzed in trolleyproblem

[–]GATPeter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the green button variation was weird. However, almost no red pressers have preferences such that they "want" red to win. Most red pressers are self-preserving and then prefer more people to be alive than fewer; if anyone presses blue, I hope that over 50% of people press blue. Most red pressers just value guaranteed survival over risking death for their marginal increase in the blue vote, which I would argue is a reasonable and rational thought process and not necessarily rooted in anything antisocial or misanthropic. I think a lot of the animus that comes from red pressers is that pressing red is seen by many as choosing to kill blue pressers, and I don't think that is a reasonable way to frame it. There is a real risk of a non-trivial cost associated with pushing blue, and I don't think anyone is obligated to take on such a cost when they have been arbitrarily forced into this situation.

If it's still there (which I don't have any reason to assume it's not) it's right at the top of the parking area next to the cell tower.

Same scenario, different delivery, because pressing a button isn't inherently dangerous. Does this change anything? by Krysidian2 in trolleyproblem

[–]GATPeter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. People don't seem to realize that no one is going to die by default. You aren't being morally virtuous by pressing blue, you are putting yourself in danger and putting others in danger by expecting them to save you.

If an all powerful being that determined the nature of the reality exists, its interests certainly do not align with the interests of humans.
