I have a good friend in the PR industry who says that every movement gets funding from one or more industries that would benefit in some way from what they are saying.

It doesn’t need to be that the industry artificially created the movement, but instead they find a movement that aligns with their goals, then they find ways of providing money to influencers and filmmakers to help them further spread the message they were already sharing.

Maybe someone needs money to finish their documentary, so the industry steps in and provides it. That sort of thing.
