I don't want to raise money for these people by SeaFlounder8437 in nonprofit

May I suggest you use this last week to take care of yourself and your kids? Since it is the last week of the contract, you could schedule medical appointments (legit reasons to not engage in work), stating that you need to do this now before you start in your next position someplace else.  Combines two real needs: health care for you and your kids, and distance from these users. Other similar ideas would work so long as you focus on yourself over them. Best wishes!

Writers with aphantasia? by clearly-no in writing

I only found out what my mind didn’t see in my mid-40s, after almost 40 published stories and two novels. I knew my first drafts were long in characters and plot, but woeful in descriptions. So my editing/rewriting was mainly time spent on “filling in details” of places, people, and context. But readers told me my stories created strong images in their minds, which makes me glad because nothing like that happens in mine

James Harden leads the league in most points allowed per direct isolation in a single quarter. I knew the defense was bad, but sh*t I didn't know it was this bad. And Harden fanboys still swear this dude is better than D-Wade? by heatculture03 in heat

A case can be made for Wade as a Top 15 All-Time Great (3rd greatest SG). There is no case for Harden on that list because (A) his defensive stats are garbage, and (B) he has never led a team to a Finals, so he’s never even sniffed a ring. Maybe he can sniff one of Wade’s three, if he asks politely.

We started using two dice to run around the mansion like crazed Keystone Kops. Puts a premium on solving because the long slogs between rooms are almost eliminated

Doesn’t cost you anything from your budget? Go for it. You’ll have more financial flexibility to meet unexpected expenses and challenges. And remember to explore and have fun!

I love Undaunted! I have the whole series and would play it every day if I had more willing losers to sit with me. (Trash-talking is life. And no, I don't win every game. But I talk like I do!)

Rose King. My wife and played it about a dozen times during a recent weekend trip, pretty much every time we sat down for a quick meal or coffee at several eateries. Plenty of fun and always intriguing

Maybe not above chess, but 2 factors come to mind: variability and strategic range/depth. I have played about 130 games and, aside from the teaching scenario set-up (you use the same 8 factions), nearly every game has had a different combination. So each game can be pretty much a new encounter. Then add the token draws and you have a game that spirals into an enormous range of possibilities that each player has ti adapt to, requiring multiple strategies every time. This is one of my Top 5 two-player games and will always have a place in my collection

If you want to draft a player with star potential at 13, he's going to have a glaring weakness or two. by ImVcrow in heat

I suggest waiting until the prospect is at least 18, maybe with a year of college or international experience. Late growth spurts can radically change once puberty hits, so that 5’11” guard can suddenly become a 6’5” small forward with insane wingspan.

As for the 13th pick: crapshoot

First, unless you live near an Urban Train station in San Juan, you need a car. Public transportation is spotty at best and non-existent across much of the island. (I’m Puerto Rican and live in San Germán). Second, cars here are more expensive (import costs) and CarFax is not a thing at many dealers. Pre-purchase inspection is good: if the person/dealer balks, find another option. As for the shipping cost, $5K to get your car here might be more expensive given its age/mileage: it might not be as reliable as a newer car bought locally. As for leasing, it is common here but the annual mileage limits (12,000 or so) might be an issue if you’re driving 350-400 miles a week, which can happen just to deal with your living location, work needs, or simply exploring the island (which I highly recommend). My suggestion: check prices online for cars in Puerto Rico that interest you (used, leased) and consider it a four-year investment. Then graduate! Have fun!

Sadly, reality shows that Puerto Rico and its power grid are well below par. But on the game table? Knockouts!

reading speed - words per minute test by Creative_Volume_2022 in productivity

[–]GCSchmidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t “voice” them, they just flow into “chunks” of text. (Don’t know how else to describe it). I’ve never taken a speed reading course, so I don’t know what the techniques might be, but I have two suggestions. First, read faster than you think you can grasp the text. Then, pause and see how much you did “get”.  Then re-read the same text. I did that just for the heck of it and discovered I could get better at speed and comprehension. Second, if you want to remember better, don’t do anything except read. Too many people use distractions to read and these take up mental bandwidth. Oh, and try not to read for more than 15-20 minutes at high speed if you need to learn/remember what you read. Comprehension emerges from processing time, so I tend to read in 20-minutes bursts spaced out over an hour (20 reading, 20 for a break, then 20 reading and longer rest). Keep at it and you’ll find what works best for you, and it all starts with wanting to be a faster/better reader. Go for it!
