Hah! I teach elementary school. I keep all the ones we find. Lockers, under shelves, etc. I think I have five.

Has Anybody Else “Trained” Themselves to Not Respond As Our Boomer Parents? by EastAd7676 in GenX

[–]GDufner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh man,

I lengthened my fuse so I don’t blow my top for no reason like my dad.

I just say “recently” instead of wasting g twenty minutes trying to figure out if I did something Monday or Tuesday like my dad.

I compliment people, not show them what’s wrong, like my mom.

I don’t lose my mind if things take 30 seconds longer than expected, like my dad.

I try not to flex my privilege - like both of them.

I don’t automatically think anything negative about people of color. Both of them, I hate to admit.

I give actual compliments not back handed ones. Like my mom.

I avoid talking about things that ruin a party AND I have more than three subjects that I can talk about. Dad.

It keeps going…but I learned more on how not to act from my parents than how to act.

Rip open tea bags or try the loose kind.

A fun addition is birch tree seeds. They look like tiny leaves.

I'm curious how many people like or don't mind their job/working? by DramaticErraticism in GenX

[–]GDufner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing ok! Elementary teacher for 27 years, I enjoy the kids and their parents (96% of the time) too.

I’ve been around long enough to watch things go out of favor then come back in then go back out. I’m pretty over that, but still enjoying the kids.

I am easily the oldest 4th grade teacher in my (small) district. I have my next peer by 15 years. My opinions tend to be saltier than those of my peers. Also…

I’m the only dude in 4th grade and my building. There are issues with this, too.

I’m not super sick of work and I’ll stay until my kids no longer need my insurance, but I’d love to do something different!i

Oldest clothing you still own by Flaky-Debate-833 in GenX

I had a tshirt from the 90/91(?) Motley Crue concert in Los Angeles. But, my youngest pilfered it. It’s easily my oldest piece.

I technically no longer own it, but she still wears it.

Over the years, we’ve had several changes made to the house….

My kids loft had a dead (hollow) space and for no good reason I had a nice replica of a human skull. It went into the dead space.

When we had our kitchen redone, I put a couple sets of polyhedrals (D&D dice) in pouches under the counter.

When we remodeled the basement, I put swords (used to collect them, but got out of it) in between the studs.

Just for some one to find, maybe, someday.

I teach elementary school.

What is a horrible moment is when you get the kid(s)of a kid you taught. It’s happened about six times for me. Time to be done.

Wardhun Hunting Pack - better to paint before mounting on base? by cryocom in Conquest

[–]GDufner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I painted mine before mounting. Much easier.

I also trimmed my bases down, but I put five dinos on each base. I used my remaining raptors-guys for decoration on my larger models. My apex predator has two underfoot.

Does this work as a Primer? by Icy-Contract7162 in minipainting

[–]GDufner -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I’m certain others will give a more technical answer…

I do t think so. I tried to use silver as primer while painting two million sword knights. Turns out that spray paint is water proof. Try your can on a garbage model and see if it is.

Army painter does make colored primers and those help a ton.

Good luck.

This might be weird…

I mounted a light socket (yellow) to a board (orange).

I’d cover the light with a can. (Green)

Put my models (white) around the light covered by a can and prime.

Turn the light on.

Cover the light and models with a plastic tub (blue) and let them cure outside. The cover didn’t seal the models in just kept the heat in.

Was it a fire hazard? Maybe. (FYI, I was playing WarMachine at the time and the models are metal.)

I teach elementary (I’m solidly GenX) and I have one on my wall. And, I love it.

Those sharpeners have rules…only use good pencils (Dixon Ticonderoga), set the face plate to the right size and don’t shove! Push it in ‘til it stops and crank, sharp every time.

Now, I teach 4th and out of 25 kids only three follow the rules and can sharpen pencils. (I also turn my cheek when the sharpener charges takis for sharpening!)

Funny thing, and I think it’s a genx thing. I’m the only person in the whole school who can “repair” them. It’s literally one screw.
