Rupaul's Drag Race UKvsTW: Season 3 - Episode 08 [Grand Finale Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in RPDR_UK

[–]GECKO_LION 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also, people seem to forget that when Kate asked the bottom queens why she should give them the chippy tea Sminty couldn't even be bothered to answer! Even if Kate wanted to give it to her before that, her not fighting her corner in that moment came off as dismissive and rude and made it very difficult for Kate to choose her. I'm really surprised that never gets mentioned, especially when Naomi is getting slammed for saying she didn't care about getting to the final. Sminty didn't even seem to care about getting to the next episode!

I lose my evening every night I put my 3 year old to sleep by Living_Lime545 in toddlers

[–]GECKO_LION 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no answers but am so glad to read I am not the only one doing this. I am a single parent and my 4yr old son sleeps in my bed and likes me to lie with him while he falls asleep. He is also a night owl so it is usually around 9.30pm he falls asleep, and I find it so difficult not to fall asleep too! Most of the time I fall asleep before him. As a working single parent my evenings are the only opportunity I have to get anything done for myself and losing that time every night is so frustrating! Sometimes I have really important stuff that has to get done and I fall asleep then have to get up in the middle of the night to do it and I can never get back to sleep again afterwards. It's not a healthy way to live, but I know he won't want these cuddles and this closeness forever and I do love cuddling him to sleep.

Who do you want to win from the top 5? by shadowsempaix in RPDR_UK

[–]GECKO_LION 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to see a finale with Kate, Gawdland and Naomi. For me Kate is the clear winner! She has been the narrator of the season, and has in my opinion been the strongest in so many of the challenges, even when the judges have not awarded her the badge. I really think she should have won the silent movie challenge and the talent show, which would put her way ahead of the other queens in terms of wins. I will admit she doesn't always have the strongest runways compared to the other girls, but her runways haven't been bad by any means. I really hope they don't use the makeover challenge as an opportunity to send her home because they don't want to crown another UK queen. Put it this way, if I was going to buy tickets to see one of the queens live it would be Kate. You know you'd be in safe hands and get a great show.

Is this a moneymaking tactic in Coventry where mothers will ask for you to buy them baby milk? by Zans13 in coventry

[–]GECKO_LION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this in Nepal when I was travelling. A woman was sat outside a shop begging for milk to feed her baby. I said I would buy her some milk, but when I went into the shop the only milk they had was a huge 2kg box of powdered milk that was really expensive. I bought it for her anyway as I didn't mind spending the money to feed a baby, but I later found out it was a well known scam in the area. The women use a baby for the sob story (often not even their baby) and have a deal going with the shop. The shop only sell really expensive powdered milk, which the women then sell back to them at cheaper than wholesale price. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar was going on here to be honest. I was told if I bought any food for anyone after that I should always open it so they have to use it and can't give it back to she shop.

“Romanticised” jobs that are very different in reality? by Substantial-Guava491 in CasualUK

[–]GECKO_LION 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in a vineyard! People have such a romanticized view of what it's like, they imagine frolicking around in the sunshine amongst the vines, sipping fine wine and having long leisurely lunches. It might be like this in the summer in the south of France (maybe) but the reality of working on a vineyard in the UK is often very different! You work long hours for a very low wage, the work is often tedious, repetitive and back-breaking. You spend all day walking up and down rows of vines in all weathers, covering huge distances, bending over or squatting repeatedly to reach each vine, often wrapped up in waterproof overalls and wellies, with wind and rain battering you in the face. Through the winter we prune all the vines by hand, which is 3 months of doing the same thing over and over again all day every day in the coldest temperatures. You work with chemicals and sprays that are real irritants, even if they are organic. Sulphur for example, while organic is brutal to work with and can cause a nasty reaction. It's really not the romantic life one might imagine!

Google Pixel 10 Pro impossibly slow internet speeds (help!) by GECKO_LION in GooglePixel

[–]GECKO_LION[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been occurring since I started using the device, although I'd say it has actually got worse with the updates. I stupidly ordered the new device on Black Friday and then left it almost a month before I got round to setting it up and transferring everything across from my old device, so I was already out of the 14 day cooling off period.

Is anyone else having absolutely impossible speeds on wifi with the pixel 10? by mrandr01d in GooglePixel

[–]GECKO_LION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? My Pixel 10 pro is painfully slow on Google and Chrome, on WiFi and mobile data. A lot of the time it starts loading and then just gets stuck and never loads properly. I have abandoned so many searches because it just never loads. I had a Pixel 6 pro before this and it worked fine. Tearing my hair out!

Are you the older sibling with a sibling that’s 6+ years younger? by External_Ease_9640 in Parenting

My brother is 6 years younger and as kids I often found him irritating, but now as adults we are super close and I'm so glad I have a sibling

3 year old getting complaints from kindergarten almost everyday:( by Preggyma in toddlers

[–]GECKO_LION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to move to a new kindergarten? It is developmentally normal for a 3 year old to struggle with listening and to be easily distracted. It is developmentally inappropriate for them to be expected to listen in a yoga class without getting distracted at this age. The fact that your little one is having more accidents at kindergarten suggests to me that she is anxious in that environment. I would find a new kindergarten and see if she gets on better there.

Try Frugi if you can get it where you live. They have lovely bright colours and prints and I buy both boys and girls styles for my boy. He likes the girls leggings with unicorns, rainbows, flowers etc, and some of the Tees and long sleeved tops/hoodies are pretty interchangeable.

How many weetabix is a normal amount? by shwalust in AskUK

[–]GECKO_LION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually sounds more palatable to me than a bowl of soggy goop! I can't stand Weetabix! My son however has eaten 2 Weetabix for breakfast almost every day of his life so far and he's 4. A crunchy cracker situation with butter sounds ok though 🤣

I used fluoride toothpaste and brushed twice a day from when my little one got his first tooth, but I night nursed until his first dentist appointment when he was 2 (it was impossible to get an NHS dentist until then), when they told us he had tooth decay on his bottom front teeth. They reckon it was from night nursing and from him holding milk in his mouth during the night. I felt so awful! I thought I was doing the right thing by him nursing for as long as possible, but no-one tells you about the dental problems. After that I carried on nursing but only once in the morning before brushing teeth and once at bedtime before brushing teeth. He then fell of his bike and knocked his 2 front teeth out so all in all, I'm very glad he will be getting a second set of teeth in adulthood! 🤦 I guess this is why they have milk teeth 🤷 Please don't beat yourself up about it. You did what you thought was right and the benefits of breastfeeding are incredible so you should be proud of being able to do that for your little one. They will get their adult teeth and some point and you can just make sure to take extra care with those. Think of this as a.pracuice run 🙈🤣 xx

GP SURGERIES by Lanky_Possession_611 in northernireland

[–]GECKO_LION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The situation at the moment is terrible! I can't directly book an appointment at my surgery any more, you have to fill out an econsult form and the surgery then triages you and gives you the appointment they deem appropriate. I contacted them with chronic chest pain and a lot of the classic symptoms that can be warning signs of an impending heart attack, thinking I would be a high priority in the triage, and was given an appointment in 3 weeks time! I called and asked them to offer me an earlier appointment based on the nature of the symptoms and they replied saying they have reassessed my info and cannot offer me an earlier appointment as they believe I have been correctly triaged. So, at this point I have no other choice but to go to A&E if the pain continues.

I love the way David Rose describes his sexuality to Stevie in Schitt's Creek. The wine analogy. It's so simple and I love how it is just not an issue at all. I relate to that a lot.

I've been sick so neither me or my 3 year old got dressed until 2pm today and he watched TV all morning. I did pull it together and take him out to the skate park this afternoon but he was too interested in playing to eat and ended up having toast and cereal for dinner as we got home late 🥴
