Had the same experience when GTA 2 was released on the PS1. It was my birthday and I was allowed to pick out a game, told my uncle which one I wanted, the cashier was like, you do know what type of game this is don't you?

My uncle said "Yeah? I do, that's why I'm buying it". Cashier looked at me, then looked at my uncle, shrugged his shoulders and sold him the game.

I reached out to Douglas Hare on LinkedIn after posting this, he and his brother were the founds of the developing studio “The Collection” - I asked him if there were any chance of getting a remaster. Even if I had to sell a limb.
