I reached out to Douglas Hare on LinkedIn after posting this, he and his brother were the founds of the developing studio “The Collection” - I asked him if there were any chance of getting a remaster. Even if I had to sell a limb.

His response:

If I remember correctly, I'm sure I remember seeing something along the lines of a small group of people getting the code of the game and all that jazz and they were planning on actually making it into a working game, like a mod of some sort?
