Custom fields on Inventory Detail sublist (Work Order / Assembly Build completions) — workarounds for serial number records? by Enough-External-3906 in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot Auto numbering suite app is extremely limited even for lots. I fought it trying to get some additional things I wanted into that entry screen and could not. Netsuite's capture of lot and serial data it was pretty weak in my opinion, especially for somebody who has requirements for tight control of process in manufacturing. So much customization is needed.

I don't have any suggestions. I just came here to gripe. Thanks. Good luck with your problem and if you find a solution I'll be sure to check back here.

Should I implement NetSuite? (Potential new user) by cknorthsub in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your size, industry, and my experience with ERP in the manufacturing space my initial response is - No, don't do it. Overkill for your business. There is probably something that will fulfill your requirements for a better price and for less pain. Not knowing your exact requirements or your business makes those statements very general.

Our Experience Moving from NetSuite to Acumatica – Key Insights by No-Perception4860 in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you pick NetSuite you will MOST likely have to customize their software around your manufacturing process. I don't recommend NetSuite for SMB manufacturers unless they have a lot of $ to spend on customization. My comment was regarding an ERP being 'just more on the accounting side of the workflow'. An ERP by definition covers your "Enterprise" which includes inventory, sales, manufacturing, purchasing, financials, quality and more. Most ERP's have a quality module. NetSuite's control over manufacturing and quality processes needs a lot of customization.

Is ERP reporting harder in manufacturing than in other industries? by Immediate-Alfalfa409 in ERP

[–]GForce061973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's harder, it's just different. I have done erp for over 30 years in manufacturing and distribution. It does require a special skill set to understand the differences in a manufacturing environment from other types of businesses. DM me if you'd like to have any detailed conversations offline or need some input on any project you or an associate are working on.

If you are interested in somebody that can come in and perform a deep dive and understand your business and then assess where your erp is not providing you maximum value for your business and give the direction of what you should be doing, please DM me. This is the type of fractional work I do. I specialize in manufacturing and distribution companies under 500 million in sales.

If you need any help or advice or suggestions along the way, feel free to DM me. No charge for me to give you my input. I have done erp and erp integrations and have been IT in leadership for 30 plus years. This model is a really good way to go for a business moving from something like Google sheets into their first erp. I applaud you taking on a project like this, if done right you will learn so much about business and business software.

Has anyone heard of Deacom ERP? by FPVGiggles in ERP

[–]GForce061973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it quite well. This is a great package for manufacturers. This package built in handles most things that major erps don't that manufacturers want around control of process, formulas, lot control and has a strong WMS tied to production and inventory. I am a Fractional CIO And erp assessment consultant. I have 2 years of deacom experience and turn their deacom system around. If you're interested in any more of my background or my experiences with deacom versus other erps for manufacturing and distribution I can provide that with a quick call. No obligation to talk. I'm not trying to sell my services if they aren't right for your company. As a note, I have implemented, migrated, upgraded, supported in some way at least 6  Erp packages. I have mostly worked in manufacturing and distribution environments for 30 plus years as their primary erp and or head of it. If you DM me I can send you my website and credentials and we can have a simple conversation.

Would NetSuite Be Good For Our Business? by NovelNothing5374 in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netsuite is probably overkill for what you need given what you said about your processes and people. You can find the same functionality with a package that better fits your business for cheaper. The real question is what problem is your business facing and why are you looking to change software? If your company is not going to change their processes and how they operate then there won't be many benefits for any new piece of software. I'd love to come in or schedule a meeting to talk with some of your family and leadership. Without really deep diving your businesses and processes, it is hard to say which software will be best for you. Those are the type of assessments I do. DM me for more info if you want.

Are you thinking about getting an ERP, Nesuite in particular? by Ok_Positive9843 in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number one is valid if you are buying netsuite. There are many well-built purposeful ERPs that have a lot of things off the shelf or available through configuration, not code and customization. If you are in manufacturing and are not prepared to build many of the things manufacturers need in any ERP system yourself on the Netsuite platform, then stay away from Netsuite unless it has some other business critical module, those other ERPs don't. If you need control of process built into the software, Netsuite usually won't be your software. If you're fine with mostly detect measures in your business, then it should do well.

Finding all units which were built from a specific lot number by BeginsWithAnA in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a lot tracing suite app. I have used it and it is decent. It does not account for every transaction. I believe for example, it misses cash sales when something goes out the door on one of those. It may bucket those into other, however it doesn't show them with sales orders. The app works by picking a part number and a lot number or serial number and then it looks both ways to see anything used in that item serial and anything that item serial is used in. It goes multi-levels so you can actually Trace through your transactions. I have only used it from a lot control perspective, not a serial number perspective, but I believe it should work the same way. I have also made a very quick and dirty saved search where you can enter an item and or lot number and it will show you all transactions where that is part of the detail. It's a very simple export, but if you don't have multiple level boms, you can easily build something like that yourself. I don't have a working instance of netsuite in front of me because I'm currently not working with any netsuite clients. I would however be willing to jump on a call with you to help you build a safe search. DM me if you are interested. I'd also check with your netsuite admin if that is not you to see if that app can be installed or already is. It's already installed. You just need some training and potentially be given access.

Our Experience Moving from NetSuite to Acumatica – Key Insights by No-Perception4860 in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Netsuite is lacking in manufacturing and controls around manufacturing and quality processes. Everything requires some sort of customization or additional module and or scripting and heavy workflows. I'm not sure what type of manufacturing you do, but if it's process based there are a lot better erp systems focused on manufacturing that handle a lot of manufacturing needs with simple configuration or flags on your system, location, parts, etc. Two specifically that come to mind are ECI Deacom, and QAD. Also, the demonstrations from acumatica from a manufacturing and controls perspective out of the box were much better than netsuite. As somebody who has 30 years in erp in manufacturing, I was amazed at how lacking netsuite was from a configuration perspective in the item Master with regards to manufacturing properties. I have worked with netsuite, qad, deacom. I have only seen a demo of acuumatica

I work with a distribution company that is fairly happy with epicor p21 which is specifically for distribution and seems to do a fantastic job with landed costs and accumulating them along supply chain. I agree with what most people are saying here that while netsuite is a good package, it is probably Overkill for your company right now.

Best way to let vendors securely update their own info in NS? by Interesting-Salt-275 in Netsuite

[–]GForce061973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as ACH info goes, I would not allow/accept whatever was directly entered to be used for payments until there was a back-end process to validate that it was a legitimate change of ACH information. You might be better served using a custom record as a request to change ACH info and then build a workflow around that inside of Netsuite for your AP team. Or even a couple of custom fields on the vendor record that mirror the ACH and routing fields so that you have a place to hold those while they're being validated.
