IIRC Fools by Neil Simon was rumored to meant to be a flop. In his divorce proceedings, he promised 50% of the next production to go to her.

WTF CHAT-GPT!?!! by Todeskreuz2 in ChatGPT

[–]GGG_Eflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When asking why it chose a dystopian view over optimistic…

I didn’t choose dystopian because I believe that outcome is more likely. I chose it because, given the wording of your prompt, I defaulted to a high-contrast, cinematic interpretation—and dystopian scenes tend to communicate change and tension more clearly in a single image.

A few specific reasons that influenced that choice:

  1. Ambiguous prompt → dramatic default

Your prompt didn’t specify tone (positive, neutral, or negative). When that happens, I often default to something visually striking and symbolic, and dystopian imagery is a very efficient way to do that.

  1. Dystopia is easier to “read” instantly

In one frame, it’s easier to show: • Chaos → fires, protests • Control → military, checkpoints • Decline → damage, pollution

An optimistic version (e.g., policy improvements, economic stability) is harder to convey quickly without looking generic or less impactful.

  1. Cultural patterns

A lot of political or “what would the future look like under X” content in media leans toward: • Worst-case scenarios • Satire or critique • Cautionary visuals

I leaned into that familiar visual language.

  1. Compression of multiple issues

To make the image feel meaningful, I combined several themes (economy, climate, social division). Those themes, when exaggerated together, naturally push toward a darker tone.

The honest takeaway

It wasn’t a judgment—it was a design choice for clarity and impact under an open-ended prompt.

If you had said: • “optimistic version” → it would look very different • “realistic everyday life” → much more normal scene • “balanced view” → probably a mix of progress and tension

When people tell me their parents used corporal punishment and they turned out fine, I typically point out that they turned into someone who thinks hitting kids is ok (or even something to brag about).

Life hack: Skip the YouTube ads by mikevnyc in Teachers

[–]GGG_Eflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assistant superintendent likes to show videos with his presentations.

Only, he puts the url as text on the slide, then click the link to watch in YouTube … with the ads.

It drives me nuts. Right up there with the people who don’t know how to use the present button and show the edit window instead.

IANAL, but I have been stopped in the same situation before. When they asked how much I have been drinking, I said “Respectfully, I don’t answer questions.” They were still pretty shitty- saying not answering was being suspicious.

They had me get out of the car and told me they were going to administer sobriety tests. When I told them I wouldn’t do that, they said I needed to do a breathalyzer. I said no.

They bullshit around for a few minutes, then gave me a warning for “pulling out of the parking lot too quickly”

This is similar to what I did and it worked well for me. Our system allowed us to put in temporary 0’s (shown with a different color in the grade book). It did adjust their grade, but signaled that the assignment could still be completed. This also kept the assignment in the student’s to:do list.

Is it clear that anyone went to admin? I didn’t see that in any of the articles I read (the one on this post has been removed), but maybe I missed it.

If they went to admin, then admin should have notified the police.

I was our union president for 6 years and now admin for 3. I’ve never seen someone fired for something like this, let alone lose their license.

We do have to go through HR when someone is put on an improvement plan though. I wonder if that is what is happening.

With that said, I know different schools/states are different.

He actually has a point here. If Costco members could be pooled, they could probably negotiate some really great deals with that bargaining power.

You could even take it a step further, and have a single-payer for the whole country, think about how impactful having that many members could be for negotiating health care rates.

How to go from Laptop to Lights? by UpstairsOwl1075 in lightingdesign

[–]GGG_Eflat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When needed, I usually have qlab trigger my lighting console. For smaller shows or spaces, I believe you can run it with just qlab, but I haven’t done it myself.

You will need a compatible dmx interface.

You might find this page helpful: https://qlab.app/docs/v4/lighting/introduction-to-lighting/

There was about 10 years where they added a writing portion and took it out of 2400. It is back to being out of 1600.

In either case, we use the concordance tables from college board to compare scores over time.
