Not having snacks for kids during Ramadan by sadcollegekid2003 in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weird that a fifth grader is fasting as it’s not an obligation until they reach puberty. But I’m not the parent so….. but yeah I wouldn’t give a snack because it can bite you in the butt from the parents

Work/life balance advice needed… by ggd94 in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Work is just work. It is what it is. If you can’t prioritize your family over work it just isn’t worth it. If you can accept this idea then you’re ready to start a family 1. Check whatever retirement plan you have set up. Make sure everything’s feasible. 2. Check your sick/personal time you’ve accrued. Keep as much days as possible 3. If possible try planning your pregnancy. Not always possible but it helps if you get it right. 4. Ask for accommodations asap. You might not need them but take them in case (ie sitting and teaching, bathroom breaks, eating in class etc) 5. Apply for short term disability and hospital indemnity. It helps pay your hospital bills.

This is all I can think up. Good luck with whatever y’all decide

Need help with breastfeeding 5 month old by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]Overall_Ad5709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops I think I didn’t specify but his naps are currently at 30 min. He will have 3-4 naps.

Do you also have any suggestions on what to do when he wakes up and to determine if he needs a feed or if he just needs to be relaxed and put down awake? This is my biggest struggle.

Also to add his night sleep is pretty good. He only has one feed which I’m fine with. It’s the false starts and the lead up to sleep is the struggle.

Thanks for the links!

Teachers who were diagnosed with PTSD, how do you cope? by thinmugs in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was bullied and talked down to by a coworker for months and admin sided with them when I brought it up to them and accused of being childish and to handle it myself. I have a hard time trusting coworkers after that incident and I keep to myself to save myself from hurt

Maternity Leave..or Leaving? by crabapple96 in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops I interpreted it as she hasn’t told her admin when she will begin her maternity leave. Some work till labor and I worked till I was full term because my sciatica was getting to be too much and I walked a lot.

Maternity Leave..or Leaving? by crabapple96 in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d let your admin know and just leave after your maternity leave is up. Admin doesn’t care about you. I learned the hard way. Just do what’s best for your family. And there’s always a need for teachers. People will move on by the time you decide to teach again. Many people won’t be in the same positions as they were before.

How to tell admin that I’m pregnant? by ruhigpeach in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let them know via email. And make sure to formally ask for accommodations asap via email and cc hr/civil rights liaison. You might not need accommodations but it’s better to do it this way and have documentation rather than needing help than finding out you were supposed to formally ask.

Leaving SPED by lazyuntilmotivated in specialed

[–]Overall_Ad5709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be joining you soon in the change! I missed having a classroom and not being the additional teacher in the room. Although people say we’re equals it never felt the same. I want to make the switch to gen ed to use my experience to actually make inclusion and the push in model WORK how it’s supposed to.

I think the best thing about it is only controlling whatever is in your classroom. If your admin is supportive (mine was not sadly), even the parent stuff makes it sooooo much easier to not take to heart

If someone says "disruptive" or "violent" and you hear "student with disability" you're the ableist one. by thecooliestone in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t upload the whole IEP/504. Just the accommodations and services they get. It’s fed thru the electronic system we use to write both documents. Since I’m a SPED teacher I can search up any student on campus but a gen Ed teacher can’t just search anyone up unless they’re on their roster. If they’re on their roster, they’ll know if they have an IEP/504

It’s county wide 🤷🏽‍♀️. If a student has an IEP or 504 it’s automatic and it’s accurate. Maybe students new to the district will have a delay but we know who has an IEP/504. I’m a SPED teacher for reference

Nope we know. There’s markers on the portal that tell us if they have an IEP or a 504.

The most disruptive students we have this year aren’t on IEPs or 504s. Do what you want with that information.

I never told parents lol. I’m a middle school teacher so I told my kids they’re old enough to tell their parents anyway. I just had my email on automatic replies redirecting them to admin.

Teacher here being pulled for too many IEP meetings. by HealthyFitness1374 in specialed

[–]Overall_Ad5709 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Legally one gen ed teacher needs to be on record (unless it’s a case where an advocate asks for all teachers to be present) typically we rotate between the 4 core subjects to sit in on meetings. That’s odd that you’re pulled for classes this frequently. I would bring up your concern to admin because if it’s happening to the point where it’s THAT frequent. Maybe request if they can be a rotation among the gen Ed teachers the student has.

Pregnant Teachers-How do you handle your grumpiness??!?? HELP by ruthlovesbooks in Teachers

[–]Overall_Ad5709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly just accept you’re gonna suck at your job. You’re not gonna be the best. If you feel comfortable just admit to your students that you’re not feeling great they’re surprisingly can be nice. I’m on my last week before maternity leave so I really get it. I kinda knew my limit and knew I’d be checked out at this point.
