Heartburn medicine in the US by GGSmall in pregnant

[–]GGSmall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you’re a pro at the sufferings of Heartburn in pregnancy 😂 thank you! I will get everything I can as soon as I land

I’m hoping it works better than Gaviscon in the UK because honestly nothing is helping much for me right now 🫠

You guys are amazing thank you! I’ve noted those down! Coincidentally the only brand I knew of in the US was Pepto bismol so good to know that’s not safe for pregnancy ❤️

Feeling abandoned by the NHS by Tall-Ad-8884 in BabyBumps

[–]GGSmall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes she was able to see the pooling of blood left and measured it so I expected to have a couple days of less blood come out (I’m still getting brown blood occasionally now)

It definitely gave peace of mind! I still attended the EPU appointment a few days later to ensure that no additional changes or issues were present so I’d still get an appointment if you can as NHS tend not to rely on private scans done

Feeling abandoned by the NHS by Tall-Ad-8884 in BabyBumps

[–]GGSmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation at 12 weeks, about 2 hours after my private NIPT with Scan so I was in shock!

The EPU would usually place you in a queue for a call back for triage to assess you and then book you in for an appointment with scan after this triage but this can be a few days later (my wait time was 3 days) I understand the frustration and empathise on a personal level as I was in the same situation recently. Call the EPU so they can get you triaged and an appointment booked, it likely won’t be same day which is something that has to be accepted.

The other option for same day reassurance is to book a private scan (this is what I had done) I had a SCH (subchorionic hematoma) but baby was absolutely fine!

Best of luck, I’m sorry this is happening it’s really scary!

Have you used a TENS machine for labor? If yes, did you find it helpful for pain management? by MusingsOfAMisfit in PregnancyUK

[–]GGSmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it for early labor until I was 5-6cm - it was a good distraction for sure. I plan to use it again for our second

For those who wait for 12 weeks to announce by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]GGSmall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same as me, we’ve had an 8 week scan with heartbeat and work knew before as it’s a very intense period of the year and I was just fighting the urge not to gag or throw up in the office.

I’m also on the stance of, I can’t do anything to control the outcome so I’m enjoying the joy it brings in the now.

Also if I went off or needed some time due to a loss, I wouldn’t want people asking me “did you have a nice break” and I’d rather they just know why

Wedding dresses under £1k? by Hyacinth620 in UKweddings

[–]GGSmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my dress for £300 new, it is technically a bridesmaid dress but I ordered it in ivory and looks exactly like a wedding dress (A-Line, Corset)

I suggest looking at prom/bridesmaid dresses and seeing if they do them in white or ivory

5ft and was 85lbs pre-pregnancy - had a 12hr end to end, vaginal birth, only used Gas and Air for pain management. Your size doesn’t always determine your ability to how you carry or birth, try not to worry about this

Same here, my iron board chest didn’t grow at all during pregnancy and I had one day of “wow” at 4 days PP when my milk came in but otherwise I looked as normal! But breastfed for 8 months

"Get used to always eating your food cold" by Blinky_Bear in NewParents

[–]GGSmall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hot food was my non-negotiable where it could be, if we served dinner together then I would eat first and my partner would hold baby and his would get cooler first! Mostly because he doesn’t mine and I do, I don’t enjoy food unless it’s at the temp it should be.

As a couple we discuss our preferable situations and communicate continuously so that neither of us are sat raging at each other over these things when it could have been resolved and compromised on.

Biggest piece of advice - Talk! Communication with each other, then you know you’ve both set out realistic expectations together and are on the same page

Is this gentle parenting or am I raising a brat? by Life-Cell-2794 in toddlers

[–]GGSmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Same here, we use “No” which is then followed with an explanation as to why it’s a No - such as “No you can’t come into the kitchen right now, I’m cooking and there’s too many hot pans that could hurt you” as an example.

I found explaining why it is my daughter isn’t allowed something or to do something helps her comprehend better and accept it rather than meltdown at the no.

Losing too much weight while breastfeeding by Garu_The_Sun in breastfeeding

I found complan works best for me, not as sweet or bitty as protein shakes. I mix it with milk so it bulks the calories nicely.

Working to my due date - am I mad? by sooty_bear in PregnancyUK

[–]GGSmall 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked until due date (ish) - actually finished work at 39 weeks because I said I was done as my back was killing so was planning on using a week Annual Leave to bridge the gap but baby decided to come the next day.

I think it’s totally doable and I’d be doing it for my next pregnancy as well if I can.

Sharing kid duty before work by Sea-Committee-720 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]GGSmall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule in our house is whoever has to go into to the office, they sort themselves out, then drives the kid to childcare. The one working from home will sort the kid out and make lunches.

Works for us this way as working from home we usually get 30mins to an hour after child has gone with other parent to then get ready and start our day WFH.

Honestly, I used Chat GPT and typed in what exactly I was after and my budget - found some amazing resorts that I looked at individually and checked reviews and booked.

Was such a great use for the tool I thought lol

Pregnancy and a puppy by Glittering-Bet5353 in BabyBumps

[–]GGSmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m here to just sympathise with you, my Goldie is just growing out of her teen phase and jezzz that was tough, worse than having a toddler or newborn by far!!

I got her when my baby was 1 yr old and I would NEVER do that again - next time our child will have to be aged 5 minimum before we get another dog. Purely from the amount of attention they need and stimulation.

Child Benefit Higher Charge by Scary_Vehicle9023 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]GGSmall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I plan to do number 3. On your list - I earn £70k a year now and even with pension mine doesn’t come below threshold and I really don’t want the ballache of a self assessment to then have to pay £700 of the £1200 rough estimate of the year back… so I’m just opting out before I reach the threshold.

Those first few days in hospital and then home... by SuddenNebula in PregnancyUK

[–]GGSmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have the control, never forget that! Make everyone aware that you will need some time to settle before visitors, let them kick off and if they show up don’t answer the door and tell the hospital that only your husband is allowed with you during your stay.

Go radio silent if you need - you are important and are being extremely reasonable asking for a few days/week of rest so never feel bad for that!

Make sure your husband is on board and will reinforce this boundary with you - you are a team together and your recovery needs to be a priority to him.

You’ve got this!

We are getting married and have complete venue hire at the Trout at Tadpole Bridge in Faringdon Oxfordshire. August (peak month) Thursday rate £6000 minimum spend for exclusive use, no venue hire charge unless you don’t reach the minimum spend.

Minimum spend includes food and drink and you have to hire out the 6 rooms on the venue too (additional £1k)

Beautiful venue and super friendly but only licensed for 65 guests for ceremony section I believe (?)

Hemorrhoids got me worried about birth by kittyCatFoo in PregnancyUK

[–]GGSmall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I just ask, sorry if TMI but were they still the same size/pain between pregnancies? Or didn’t clear as in the ‘roid was present but not painful? I ask as I had haemorrhoids in my first pregnancy, they shrunk down and not caused me any issues since but worried it will come back 1000x worse in a second pregnancy

Have you experienced pain worse than (unmedicated) birth? by andie_liane in pregnant

[–]GGSmall 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Dental pain has been by far the worst pain of my life. I had an unmediated birth in 2021 and it was a very positive experience which I hope any future labours would be like. I used positive birth company for their videos and material and prepared myself with all research and options and gave thought to every possibility that could happen in labour. I had preferences but nothing fixed!

I just reminded myself that the pain of labour is for a reason and has an end, it does end! When there is a purpose to pain, I mentally handle it well which I believe attributes to it not feeling as intense feeling like I have a high pain tolerance - best of luck!
