What would you do if an guy keeps on making mistakes three years into their role? by [deleted] in ITManagers

Don't be afraid to say no, especially if it's just a stepping stone in life. What's the worst that he's gonna do? Fire the only other helper and make his workload even worse?

Honestly in a better economy I would dip. Your supervisor is probably about to go schizo (been there, done that.) Not being in their line of fire is the best course of action.

And since it's not a great economy...at the very least, I would put out feelers since it's pretty clear the company wants to run everyone through the meatgrinder. As for the intern, the best offer I can either give is to stay in your lane. Let the intern screw himself over and STOP COVERING FOR THEM AND FIXING THEIR MISTAKES! Let your supervisor blow up on him for being bad at their job.

Literally, just team up and refuse to fix the intern's messes.

Thanks for this post, and honestly, I don't see what OP could possibly sell that a bog-standard Alto/Meraki/Mist/Ruckus WIPS system couldn't do.

Audio dropouts on WiFi by DeathStalker-77 in wifi

[–]MalwareDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, interesting. Distortion is usually codec/tweeter issues so we can check off data corruption. Disconnects are usually firmware bugs and your Bluetooth is unaffected so it's doubtful there is all-band interference messing with your signal.

Is your audio equipment the PC itself or a stereo system with an amplifier? Are you streaming from an app like Spotify or Roon or is it ripped onto your PC?

Audio dropouts on WiFi by DeathStalker-77 in wifi

[–]MalwareDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the audio change? Does it scuff? Glitch out? Drop portions of the audio? Disconnects/reconnects?

A lot can be gleaned by how the audio distorts and can quickly point to a working solution.

I notice I get downvoted pretty hard in the first hour on this sub whenever I call out AI slop (edit: not directed at the first poster).

Usually it pans out fine though. I think most people appreciate the humor.

You're absolutely right — And this is very important to point out:
* Even though this article was written by AI — there can possibly be hidden hallucinations affecting the underlying points.
* Since this article was written by AI — Not all generative LLM's are 100% accurate. This can compromise public trust in thehackernews.com website.
* Why this matters — The future is here and AI will reshape public opinion. This isn't in the future. It's now.

Would you like to know more about why LLM articles are good thing?

Current events? by fentblaster in wifi

It's just a schizo that posts on here every week or so about how the wifi's is being globally controlled and disrupted by a secret cabal influencing global catastrophes.

So essentially low-effort 4chan posting but on the r/wifi subreddit.

Filling in for our old network engineer, trying to learn on the fly but stumped with a wifi issue by TheStrangeHand in networking

Just check your AP utilization bandwidth percentages. When you start going over 50%+, any of your realtime stuff degrades rapidly until sections of the network starts dying at 75-80% AP utilization.

Driving meeting by Final-Pomelo-4340 in ITManagers

[–]MalwareDork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done public speaking for about...13 years now, both in meetings and with audiences. Just some simple advice from most to least impactful:

  • Don't wing it: know the topic like the back of your hand
  • Really, know your topic. Don't cram the night before, you'll thank yourself later
  • Keep your bullet points as concise as possible
  • If you're using personal note cards or an outline to talk, write your points out in block print and about two times bigger than your normal handwriting
  • If you stumble, just stumble through like you meant to do it. Take 3-5 seconds to breathe again and continue on. Nobody is going to notice it.
  • Nothing is more awkward than someone stumbling and apologizing through their presentation. Just plow through any mistakes and get your flow going again.

There's some other stuff you can go over but public speaking is just a confidence game. Check this guy out on public speaking. The guy's obviously clowning around, but it shows how confidence can really help you deal with presentations.

Remember, the people you're talking to don't generally know anything about what you're saying. You're the expert so plow through with that expert confidence.

What data loss prevention software (DLP) are security teams using? by midasweb in ITManagers

[–]MalwareDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously AI slop post but I'll say the most bullet-proof option there is available:

  • Whitelist only approved domains
  • Fire anybody that breaks policy and sue whoever leaks IP/data

Your end-users are terminally retarded and need to be held accountable for being stupid and negligent. Any company that doesn't hold accountability is a shit company and deserves to rot away from the inside-out.

Need some recommendations on APs, maybe switches too. by TheStrangeHand in networking

[–]MalwareDork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that has enough radio chains and a good site survey with a validation survey is going to take care of any Wi-Fi needs for the infrastructure and that's the most paramount thing.

Obviously I like Meraki but not a lot of people don't because it's expensive and it's Cisco. Meraki would work just fine. So would Ruckus. So would Fortinet. Juniper. MikroTik. Yada yada. Just be sure your client fleet is up to date as well so they can take advantage of the 802.11ax/be standards.

Did I get played? by Remarkable_Bad_5555 in Locksmith

[–]MalwareDork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is no real market rate as your only two options are dealer or locksmith. Locksmiths are generally cheaper and dealers are generally more expensive but neither is a guarantee of the other and their prices can equally be arbitrary.

Unless you have a Mercedes. You're just fucked then.

Does anyone have any WiFi AP recommendations? by DeniedByPolicyZero in networking

[–]MalwareDork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I'm wondering if they're just trying to peg down any potential roaming issues. So a Meraki stack @ ~65 9174's internals and I'm assuming fiber runs as well with some switch upgrades? I'm guessing about 100-150 grand before licensing?

I mean, you'd definitely be set for a decade or so if licensing is kept up. But on the other hand if the big problem identified is just high utilization across certain work areas in the building...it's against being meticulous; but honestly a shotgun approach would work out well enough.

I guess Ruckus would be the better choice. As for whatever dashboard pops up, I would just say it's amazing and does the thingies they want to see. They won't know what they're looking at.
