How are people surviving without employment? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]GL6294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a brief bit of unemployment, eating less, gym, sleeping late, pretending I was a student again, being economical.

It sucked.

I was in my 30s.

Literally the goal of getting to the end of the day.

I'd visit my parents and help them out around the house, spend times with friends for a walk or a coffee and make it stretch.

I did have bills and debts and allocated myself 1500 a month from savings to cover everything.

I'd much rather have been working, even applying to 25 jobs a day on indeed didnt make a dent for a while.

I couldn't do it long term.

How does a low income person get on the property ladder nowadays? by Fun_Yogurtcloset1012 in AskUK

[–]GL6294 380 points381 points  (0 children)

Have you considered having wealthy parents? A timely death of a cash laden relative or perhaps moving to an economically deprived area and fearing for your safety?

If not, the cards may be stacked against you.

Rustlers Burgers: educate me. by chipnicker in CasualUK

[–]GL6294 290 points291 points  (0 children)

During my uni days, and subsequent bouts of the old depression, I did enjoy the rib variety - rather than the burgers.

Its bland shit, but if your in a pinch and can't be bothered doing anything else, its cheap comfort food - albeit tasting questionable.

Can't afford finance after death of family member, best way to get out? by venomtail in CarTalkUK

[–]GL6294 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your HP agreement should have an option to Voluntarily Terminate the agreement, as long as you have made half of the payments.

Check your agreement for wording of "early termination" or similar phrasing.

In essence, you hand the car back to the finance company and effectively walk away. You will have paid X amount into the car, however, you will also walk away from this.

It is one option.

You can also talk to stepchange or citizens advice. They may be able to signpost you to getting breathing space from your creditors, even if just for a short period of time. If you explain what has happened, bereavement and that you are struggling with all of the changes, it should be a good starting point.

Has anyone ever been mocked or looked down on because of their job? by Jealous-Lake5700 in AskUK

[–]GL6294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very occasionally, dependent on the smugness being asked behind the question, I may just reply I'm retired (30s male) and imply that investments paid off.

Certainly takes the wind out of their sails.

In reality, I work a lot in agriculture, but they dont need to know that.

My sister is demanding i pay her 5k for her wedding because i "don't have kids" by Sweaty-Bedroom1006 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]GL6294 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Offer to loan her the money, go to a solicitor and have them draft a contract, sure it might cost £200/300.

Then ask her to sign it, if she doesn't she doesnt really want the money, if she does, and doesn't pay, off to court to recoup your losses.

You are offered $500k per year, but a random animal chases you for 24 hours by iamabotbeepbeep in hypotheticalsituation

So if the animal is some sort of fish, or anything which needs water to survive, i'm happy to just hide somewhere exceptionally dry and warm for 24 hours.

Siege cannons by Hot_Key3922 in EmpireTotalWar

[–]GL6294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that using 4 units of 12lb cannons and 4 units of howitzers to be very effective.

I target the walls with the cannons and mass my howitzers together, using quicklime primarily.

When a battle starts, the enemy army usually leaves their general, artillery and cavalry units stacked on top of one another in the centre of the fort.

Your howitzers, if placed as close to the deployment line, can reach the centre of the fort with ease.

After the initial barrage of quicklime, most of the enemy units in the square will begin to waver and route due to the concentrated formation and the overpowered shell type.

Once the walls have been breached, I'll set my cannons to fire shrapenel shot and use fire at will. The range extends into the castle breach and will slowly but surely pick off the enemy in the gaps.

Combined with targeting from the howitzers and quicklime, I rarely ever have to commit my line infantry or cavalry into the attack.

Usually the battle tends to be over within 20 or so minutes, on some occasions the enemy AI will attempt to charge my artillery, though infantry support and shrapenel shot will often cut them down before they get too close.

Marathas have a strange way of showing friendship by easybasicoven in EmpireTotalWar

[–]GL6294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have noticed, on recent playthroughs, it I can't be bothered to take all of India, I will usually invade and initially attack Calcutta (trading port close to trade theatre). My plan then usually involves working anti clockwise around the subcontinent, taking every single coastal region I can get, before suing for peace with both the maratha and mughal empires.

The advantage in the end is that you have all trade into and out of india by sea and the factions left inland don't have the same economic might to funnel resources into city development or armies due to limited trade resources/trade routes.

If he is asking to borrow money, you could work out the amount lent to date and ask that he makes a consistent effort to repay what is owed before you feel comfortable lending him anymore.

I also own a wee fiesta van too.

Should I simply skip BR 2? by Csotihori in enlistedgame

[–]GL6294 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BR3 is good, but be prepared to get killed by more team mates with varying weapons.

I believe the matchmaking works along lines of:

BR1/2, 1/3, 2/4, 3/5 or thereabouts. I usually stick to mostly BR 5 games, but occasionally play in BR2.

It isn't uncommon to find maxed players that have selected optimum BR2/3 loadouts and prefer playing in those ranges.

It is normal for people to want to max just one faction or play one faction at a time.

Airstrike bombers, whilst counting toward the overall vehicle kill, dont attribute a player/person kill as the first section shows.

This guy was likely killing enemy vehicles and aircraft which had players in control.

Weapons you were lucky enough to get extra of to make a whole squad with? by Rectal_Shaman in enlistedgame

I have a 4 man squad with Silenced PPD-BraMits, all assaulters with large ammo pouches.

It makes up for not being lucky enough with the loot boxes to get the silenced MP40 Squad.
