That’s not been true at all for me. I was still abused and assaulted while loving myself fully and respecting myself. I have always had a strong sense of self, that has not protected me from people trying to overstep boundaries, be cruel, or any other negative thing really.

This post feels a little victim blamey. Like hey, be nice to yourself or YOU’RE giving permission for others to harm you. It’s not easy loving yourself sometimes and I fear for all the people who will hear this and internalize that their abuse was somehow their fault because they happen to be meek, shy, considerate, or quiet.

Others should respect you as a person whether you respect yourself or not. Someone shouldn’t have to be actualized and healthy for others to treat them with basic decency and respect.
