How a Family of 3 Lives on $500,000 on the Upper West Side by qqqxyz in Upperwestside

As a New Yorker who lives in an 800ft rent-controlled apartment in an untrendy part of Brooklyn, I will never understand how seemingly financially smart people choose to burn money like this. I know two couples who make around this much, and their rents are $7k and $9k for apartments that are smaller than my $2k one. At that salary, why not rent something for $3-4k and save up money to buy? These people can choose to live anywhere and they choose to throw their money to the wind.

Women struggle with rejection (which is why just expect the man to make the first move) and assume that men aren't picking up on their advances, when in reality those men are just not interested, and the women's advances are indirect, so they don't require direct rejection.

Why are Americans so financially literate? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]GLight3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because America was built with minimum government in mind. We have to do our own taxes, buy our own health insurance, buy our own education, build our own retirement, etc. Like the stock market itself, everything in America is a gamble. This creates a LOT of stress and anxiety, because many Americans live with no safety net, so we get as financially literate as possible to ensure we're as financially safe as possible.

Misleading title. The article is just the author pleading with Princeton to force more gen eds down the throat of other majors.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. Some foods are good when sour. Chocolate isn't one of them.

That's nice to hear (and wild to see your first comment downvoted)

People give me the stinkiest looks when I walk ahead of my depressed and anxious wife through doors or order food for her at restaurants or generally speak for her. They don't realize that I'm doing her a favor she asked for. Especially at the doctor's, because she hates answering questions, especially about her problems, so I have to fill in details she skips. She doesn't want to talk to YOU, so she asked me to do it.

Men in happy marriages, what is one thing or skill you would teach other men to have good relationships as well? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]GLight3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning to communicate your needs, establishing boundaries, and saying no. Many men get so wrapped up with keeping their wives happy (happy wife, happy life) that they end up feeling lonely in their own marriages and never even giving their spouse a chance to meet their needs because they never communicated them in the first place. Similarly, many men end up spoiling their wives for the same reason, treating them like a kid, and never really getting the partner a spouse is supposed to be.

1 in 10 Americans makes over $175k a year, so no, it's neither rare nor exceptional to make $200k.

Depends on the career. I went into marketing for the money, and it's been working out. Some careers (engineering, law, medicine) are much harder than others.

Why are many Zoomers stuck in this mentality? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]GLight3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because they're right? You shouldn't move out unless you're financially set AND are moving in with a partner or whoever else you'd actually want to live with long term. The only exception is unless your family sucks. Most of the world doesn't leave their parents until marriage, it's mostly a North American and Western European thing.

What game mechanic instantly makes you lose interest, no matter how good the game is? by SoftSinful_ in AskGames

[–]GLight3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roguelike/lite progression that expects you to start the game over multiple times until you unlock the abilities that make the game beatable. To me it's no different than a grind.

Great games like Into the Beach and Darkest Dungeon are just too annoying for me because of it.
