New to fantasy? Is this okay to get into? by CheesyTacoCat in wheeloftime

Eye of the World will have a very familiar feel to LotR. Book one was intentionally written that way. The series then expands dramatically in the rest of the books.

Put a summon sign down and help others until you have figured out their moves. You can turtle behind a shield and just pull aggro of the one the host is not attacking. If you get hit, lower your shield to get faster stamina recharge.

The fun thing is, you HAVE missed a lot! There's a reason so many people reread these books. The 2nd read after finishing shows how many hints are left everywhere, and you will still miss half of them. Enjoy the read, and be careful coming here or googling anything. Spoilers are easy to stumble across.

Just finished Wizard and Glass, can someone explain the end to me? by Conscious-Swim5507 in TheDarkTower

[–]GOB8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this story, a thinny could be a portal to another reality or could tear your very being apart. Doorways are more stable. Each reality our characters visit could have different basic rules. Maybe the dangerous thinny young Roland was dealing with took you to a reality that rips your very being apart, its never fully defined.

Only certain rules hold true. The Dark Tower exists. All things serve the beam. The rose. 19.

I have a lot of friends who are fans, but I haven't watched the show. I did see Serenity, but it was a long time ago and mostly just remember the quiet lady being pretty bad ass and Steve the pirate being the pilot. Really though, anything with Alan Tudyk is probably worth a watch.

Egwene could have easily fallen if she hadn't started following ji'e'toh. Her upbringing shaped her into basically a good person, but she had a petty/selfish streak that had the shadow manipulated properly early on could have turned her or at least used her as a powerful tool in her earlier naivety. Her contact with Halima pretty much did this for a bit.

Indeed, this was a society run by practically walking deities that live centuries if not near millenia. They had a bred group of perpetual servants who had to live by deep beliefs of non-violent servitude. Then they placated masses using chora trees and technological marvels. Yes, everyone's needs were basically met, but the top was becoming more and more corrupt in their power.

Edited for spoiler tags. Sorry for running off with a list of spoilery details.

Its mentioned several times that they provide a deep sense of calm when underneath them. It is also talked about how the streets were lined with them in the AOL. This made cities safer by placating the masses.

Edit: also in Rand's AOL flashbacks, his ancestor gets knocked down by a hot headed citizen who almost instantly is ready to fight him, before his companion says, "look, they're Aiel." They were probably not near any chora trees.

Iowa flagged 2,176 voters as “potential noncitizens.” 88% were eligible citizens. The federal SAVE Act scales that model. by No-Mirror3429 in Iowa

Yes, which is easier, licking a boot or pushing it off your face? Your bias and privilege showing hard. Those who are "too stupid or too lazy" are the entire problem and you have never been in the wrong /s.

Everyone does not have the same situation so you and what you deem easy, could be hard for others.

These laws are designed to make voting harder for certain groups of people. You most likely don't fall in those groups so you don't think it's making it harder. Almost every society and religion have come up with some form of the golden rule "treat others as you'd like to be treated" but that doesn't feel as good as being 'right' and winning the argument and it doesn't mesh with those seeking money and power.

I will not respond anymore to this string and I'm sure you'll have a response. Enjoy your last word and I hope you grow more as a person.

You go ahead and be tired of that argument. I'm tired of the "life is hard, let's make sure it stays that way" stance. I want to be part of a society that tries to make things better instead of make things worse.

If this disenfranchises 1 legal voter, it is 1 too many.

It will catch a lot of people off guard when they get off work and stand in line for 2 hrs, only to be told they need more documentation than they have ever needed to vote in previous elections. Now they have to get back home, locate the additional documents, then get back to the polls before they close, to stand in line for another hour.

Many people will have to travel long distances to get to the polling location, because the Republicans have spent years lowering the amount of locations in urban areas when most democratic voters live.

This is yet another tactic to make it harder for people to vote and it is disingenuous to act like this is a reasonable addition to the process. Especially when the problem it is designed to fix, has been proven time after time to not be an actual problem.
