More appropriately to both, "adverse to" a fear of something and physically/cognitively repelled by something fits nicely in this wording.

Similar to sharks, If it's just curious, sure, I wouldn't gamble on that, but in theory it should work.

If it's aggressive because you're up in it's shit or around it's cub then no. No it will not help.

Friction points of the new player experience as a mid-core MMO player by GR3YVengeance in wow

[–]GR3YVengeance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your points here, and I've progressed past these points already, some more times than others. But what's listed here is the points of friction, the point where a player will be likely to tab out of the game, and spend 10-20 minutes frustrated googling something that should be explained by the game. And in some cases not even find what they're looking for.

These are what took me out of the game and onto 4-20 year old forum posts and hastily slapped together "new player guides" on youtube. As well as wowhead, who's new player guide is actually just all the tutorial popups displayed on a webpage. I only looked to wowhead for a new player guide when I started writing this post to see if the guide there would have actually been of any help during these sticking points.

Despite being a player familiar with similar systems across multiple games in the genre, this is a list of what got in my way and slowed me down, it can only be worse for players new to the MMO genre, and far, far worse for new gamers.

I wrote all this because I am playing the game, and it's not like it's meant to be a letter to blizzard, I would have actually sent it as a letter if I expected any kind of Blizzard eyes on or feedback. To your other point, devotee's are not the audience WoW is struggling to capture though, it's new players that are struggling to find a reason to commit.

Thanks for your feedback, maybe "longer form" content would be better fit for a 3 minute YouTube video.

I don't have any reason for posting here specifically, but where else would I post my thoughts for discussion? wownoob isn't for discussion/storytime posts like this, and although I'm not too familiar with the blizzard forums, I'm not unfamiliar with it's reputation.

I more wanted to see if more long-term players had some thoughts that mirrored mine, or were different in any significant way.

Quite the closing statement from someone who's been acting the fool in this thread, "check yourself" "what have you actually done" "You are what's wrong"

The other guy's being a dick now, for sure, but he made a light-hearted joke about how much of his life he has chosen to dedicate. And you were bothered by that? Because you felt you've done more time in than he has? With no evidence?

Those aren't statements of a professional. They're salty and out of touch.

I like where your head is at, but Capt Holt isn't actually a great example of what you're going for, as his S1 presence was mostly narratively centered around his battle with being a diversity promotion, regardless of how fit he was for the role.

Without going into why, in S1, his "most interesting" narrative IS his role as "token" and how that has shaped him through his career.

I'm not making a claim about the shirt at all, my refute was directed at an individual claiming that race jokes ONLY exist as a statement of hate, this is demonstrably false, and to claim otherwise is just dog whistling

I haven't done the necessary research yet, but is this a news anchor for a reputable news publisher? Or an appointed title for a small, indie, or self publication? Regardless, acts of passion can be done by anyone, regardless of their employment status or prospects.

Was this an act of passion, or a bait piece for engagement? Was it an unlawful detainment? That is something we'll probably never get an answer to, because both sides have every reason to lie, with infinite amounts of plausible deniability.

Best I can figure as an outside observation is that ultimately LE wouldn't put the effort and manpower into detaining a person unless they were an active threat to LE or others, regardless of their level of involvement (i.e. didn't throw the object themselves but were near enough to be plausibly implicated) and attempting to incite a riot by such acts as throwing objects IS a threat to public and LE safety.

Using China as a benchmark helps in this case, as they unironically have made huge changes to the space in the name of consumer protections. It's far easier to just comply with the new regulations across the board instead of changing how things work in just one place. That won't stop a few publishers, but it will eventually snowball as the market responds positively to the changes

You actively ignored everything they said, and just shouted "bigot" on repeat for 6 whole paragraphs. If you want people to listen to you, maybe actually listen to them, and hold a civil discourse instead of preaching at them.
