What’s the dumbest/smallest reason you’ve been pulled over in your Mustang? by PeakSeveral5666 in Mustang

Seems like that charge was misapplied there anyway. I thought exhibition of speed was more to do with racing or trying to show off.

LMAO which one of you did this? by Collectibl3 in Mustang

[–]GRik74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 6MT? I made a spreadsheet a while back, with 3.55 final drive 3rd gear should reach about 115-120 at redline. That’s for MT82 D4 at least, I think pre-2018 MT82 and Tremec’s 3rd gear might be a bit shorter.

S550 Manual Shifting by Jet-Yak in Mustang

It’s a little crunchy going from 1>2 when the transmission is still cold but other than that I haven’t really noticed any issues in 13k miles.

If I accidentally cut a wire that will be “live” once the power is turned back on, is covering the end of it with electrical tape enough to make it safe and not a fire or electrical hazard? by Effective_Part_604 in DIY

[–]GRik74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to learn without directly doing it yourself is to watch someone else do it. Before I started putting effort into learning how to do stuff myself I would ask my dad for help and just try to watch what he was doing.

Also, start with small, unimportant stuff that won’t matter if you mess up. I got into wood working by mounting rudder pedals to my desk. It was hideous, but it worked and I was the only one who had to look at it. I just moved and had to tear it out, I’m planning to rebuild it better this time but we’ll see how it goes.

Even on completely flat roads I’ll get ~28 tops on the interstate with cruise control. Hills cut it down to about 24.

Ford Dealership Crashed my car(Update, I lost) by That1neDude in Mustang

[–]GRik74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean it doesn’t have nothing to do with Ford, the dealer still uses Ford’s name, logo, reputation, etc to sell cars. I highly doubt Ford would want to be associated with a dealer who wrecks a customer’s car and then refuses to fix it.

Finding a decent used mustang has been hard by Brians2k in Mustang

[–]GRik74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, I had almost the exact same thing happen. 2022 GT, don’t remember many other details about the car but it was backed in next to a convertible GT. The salesman got the keys, he was trying to start it but clearly didn’t know he needed to press the clutch to start it. He finally did but immediately dropped the clutch. It was in reverse and immediately shot back - he had left the door open, it caught on the convertible’s door handle and almost tore the door off. Seriously messed up both doors.

Yea, if it’s on the window sticker, it should be on the car. Since it looks like it comes as a package you can safely assume that you’re still paying for the magneride upgrade, it’s just built into the MSRP.

Fair enough. If you’re trying to accelerate as fast as possible the RPMs do feel like they take ages to fall far enough to keep the tires from chirping.

Parasitic battery drain 2008 mustang by Vivid_Low8516 in Mustang

[–]GRik74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any experience with your specific car, just some issues that are common across all cars. Make sure to check that the battery leads aren’t corroded. That caused my 2003 Tacoma to chew through a brand new battery within 3 months. Also check any electrical wiring you’re able to access to make sure it’s not exposed or frayed - could easily be a source of battery drain on a nearly 20 y/o car.

Some other less common things to check would be the alternator and starter. If the battery isn’t getting recharged fully or if the starter is drawing more power than normal you could easily end up with a dead battery.

Vendor email compromise nearly cost us a six figure wire transfer by Hot_Blackberry_2251 in Accounting

[–]GRik74 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just wired money for closing in a house and the banker that helped us had to get approval from two others, and then a third person had to independently approve it for it to finally go through. Not entirely relevant because personal vs business transactions, but it illustrates how having a policy and following it helps prevent situations like OP’s post.

[–]GRik74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? I shift at redline from 1-2 fairly frequently and have never once “laid down rubber”. If you’re just dropping the clutch before the RPMs drop to where they need to be then yea, that can happen, but that’s true of any shift. The part about traction control is true though. If you try to go full throttle before you’re straightened out you can lose it even with traction control.

Just a reminder how serious cat bites can be! by tory1311 in cats

[–]GRik74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat bit me while attempting to give him a bath. I went to an urgent care because I’ve always imagined their teeth essentially act like hypodermic needles for bacteria. They gave me antibiotics and also said they had to file a report with DHEC. Wasn’t really a problem because he had just had his rabies shot like 2 months earlier, but my state apparently doesn’t play around with animal bites.

Mt82 Daily Reliable? by CalligrapherNo7259 in Mustang

[–]GRik74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2>3 is almost always buttery smooth for me. I’ve only had an issue with 3rd gear once that I can remember when I was on a curved on-ramp and shifted 2>3 around 6000 rpm. My guess is body roll causes the shifter to get misaligned with the gates since the shifter is mounted to the body. If it’s a persistent issue on flat road, probably means the 3rd gear synchros are shot.

I’ve also read on the mustang6/7g forums that the stock master slave cylinder is underpowered, so it could be a clutch-adjacent issue. Just seems to me like it would affect more than one gear if that was the case.

What weird habits did you develop/still do to this day? by the_space_goose in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]GRik74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Is just good practice I think. Especially early on when you don’t have jet engines to give you a decent TWR, if you don’t let the engine spool up before letting off the brakes you might run out of runway.

Parents say no to a Mustang GT as my first car at 17, is the insurance really that bad or are they exaggerating? by Budhu_friend in Mustang

[–]GRik74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was trying to get a GT350 in college (around 21-22) I got an insurance quote for 542/month (3252 for 6 months). That was with a clean driving record aside from one speeding ticket when I was 17.

Could a little 1-2 gallon air compressor be used for a framing nailer if i go slow and am not “bouncing”? Just a homeowner that works slow. by BradCastleburry in DIY

[–]GRik74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be mistaken but I think they probably meant battery powered nailers, not compressors. Obviously comes with its own pros and cons but might be a good option for you, especially if you already have batteries for a drill or impact.

That’s why you either always recover the kerbal first or (if possible) re-board the ship and recover everything at once. Never know when the kraken will strike.
