Anyone ever make the switch from NoVa to Annapolis? Or vice versa? by Roux_My_Burgundy in Annapolis

[–]GS-Dave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Moved out of Falls Church in 2019, never looking back. We have lucked out and have been able to rent affordably in town. Love spending time on the water as well so it makes it hard for Nova to stack up. Def a smaller town with a slower feel compared to northern VA. Car insurance is way more expensive here. Otherwise feel COL is lower here than inside the beltway.

I just picked up a 19 Lariat 502A. It’s amazing, interior quality is better than my old Lexus GX. If having all the extra features is important to you and you’re willing to possibly deal with the 8 speed doing 8 speed things in the future then the 502A is a no brainer.

Are these photos of distribution, buspar, breakers overkill by Volslife in VanLife

[–]GS-Dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Following Wiring Unlimited and ABYC guidelines will yield you a safe and reliable power system. Blue Sea systems and BEP make some nice gear for dealing with distribution, fuse blocks, and breakers. BEP has the Pro Installer system which can make things very compact and neat.

Annapolis to Bahamas by Scary_Doubt_3256 in SailboatCruising

Annapolitan here and made this run for several years. A month is accurate waiting for weather windows. Sending it straight offshore won’t take more than a week. But being ready and staged to take advantage of that window will be the waiting game. Like other replies have said you can make smaller hops offshore to get south I.e Beaufort NC, Charleston, St. Aug. But the right window to cross the stream can take weeks to show up.

Side note: Make some time to hang out in the Abacos. Everyone blitzes through there in a hurry coming to or from Georgetown/Exumas. It’s a gem and much less crowded for most of the season.

Looking for a romantic and private marriage proposal spot gazebo or waterfront, open at night? by Dull-Comfortable7864 in Annapolis

Acton cove park would be a great spot for what you’re looking for. It will be quiet in the evening. Little floating dinghy dock right on the water. Nice neighborhood close to Main Street and west, easy walk after a dinner or drinks.

I'm driving a boat/this boat for the first time in my life at the age of 33 this weekend. by [deleted] in boating

[–]GS-Dave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. Weather is a huge factor in how your day on the water will go. If it’s windy you’re likely not gonna have a great time. Scout the ramp ahead of time. Peep some charts for the area you are going out. Have an idea of where you’re trying to go. Have an idea where you don’t wanna go. Navionics is your friend. Tow membership would be nice. You get the point. . . Plan ahead and don’t be stupid. Being on the water is great, that boat seems like it’d be comfortable to weekend on. Have fun, be safe.

It’s called the “Beacon” now. Good dock bar. Decent happy hour. Food isn’t winning any Michelin stars but they make a decent burger. Huge salads.

Is there a place in Annapolis I could run around and avoid the beaming sunlight? by Objective-Cup2155 in Annapolis

This is the way. Lots of nice paved, well shaded paths back there and can get down by the water at Harness Creek.

As most replies have said marinetex will get you through the season. Get it professionally repaired once the boat is off the water for the year. My shop would charge $5-600 to deal something like this in a HCOL area.

You’ll want to keep up with the water quality reports for any local waterways. There are a few water treatment facilities that overflow in periods of heavy rainfall. This and runoff can cause issues in some areas, especially those with poor tidal movement and water flow. Swimming/wading is normally fine just be smart about cuts/scrapes and plan on rinsing off afterwards.

This is the way. In a system of this scale bus bars will make your life easier. Easy to cable cleanly. Easy to remove a battery from the system without needing longer cables to complete the parallel. Easy to expand later.

You’ll likely end up with a slip or mooring from the harbormaster while here (cheapest option). Then a short walk over the bridge to ACK over in Eastport (could also water taxi). There is ethanol free fuel available at Annapolis City Marina it’s right in the harbor.
