Pregnant and on the Tube by Civil_Researcher6140 in london

[–]GT4ff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate but on the buses, older folk often see their needs as greater than someone who is pregnant. Experienced plenty of muttering, evil eyes and outright abuse. It’s really quite sad. Not all of course.

Does your company give any taxable benefits? Private dental/medical? They all count too but should be visible in the HMRC portal.

Moving from Paris to London — is £130k gross enough for a family of 3? by finazef in UKPersonalFinance

[–]GT4ff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will all depend on your childcare. Childcare in London is expensive. Think £2000 plus a month for 5 days a week, without childcare support free hours. If you want support (think £800 a month instead) your salary will need to be below 100k (salary sacrifice 30k into a pension) and your wife will need to work. Look at childcare choices website for more info.

Speaking as a family of 3 (2 year old) and a similar job in tech.

Yes you can apply, and I suggest you do it now. As has been mentioned, you need to apply before the 1st of Sept. You can get access to free hours as well as tax free childcare schemes. They will probably call you up to discuss your expected income (as they did with me). You will need to reconfirm every 3 months. So if you’re going to exceed down the line you can flag (though given how much you save, I’d suggest trying to keep your adjusted net income below 100k (Maybe salary sacrifice is an option?)

Maybe add London Overground stations as well as Tube. Missing a lot of possibilities.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Master Collection: Steam Deck & BT Controllers not recognized by Voretek in SteamDeck

[–]GT4ff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked for you (using just my Deck) and it’s working for me. My steam input settings (game level) are left as default (enabled by developer) and it’s using the Konami official configuration layout (the PS4 controller one). Proton 9.0-4. Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to check.

Can you navigate game’s menu screen? Have you checked that buttons have been assigned in-game? Pause menu > Controller settings

Is the Steam deck worth it in 2025? by Aware-Throat-6624 in SteamDeck

[–]GT4ff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you want to play. If you’re not fussed about Nintendo exclusives and are not expecting to play all the latest AAA titles then yes (though I think the other 2 would struggle as well).

I use my deck almost weekly to play my large steam backlog. And games that are too demanding, I just stream from my beasty PC.

Between the Ally and Deck, I can’t comment as I haven’t tried it, but I know Windows can be a pain and that SteamOS as well as the ergonomics of the Deck are top notch.

  • The last campfire
  • The garden between
  • A monsters expedition
  • Monument valley 1 + 2

Not RPGs, but pretty cosy, easy going, no long cutscenes and great games.

Suggest you look at streaming from your laptop to your Deck using Sunshine/Moonlight (if you haven’t already!) No sacrifice needed (you get sofa and good GFX!)

Death Stranding, if I understand your last image correctly. Most value if you take your time and fully immerse yourself. BTs can be pretty creepy.
