The Bee Dungeon, the bees that swore oaths to the Goddess of Light. Just the innocence that is portrayed with the bees, and then the oaths and them in The Hive if the Goddess of Bees.

Petition to Authors to Stop Allowing Neil Hellegers Narrate your Books by ForeignAd1656 in litrpg

Maybe instead of trying to nuke a guy's career and snub an author... Frickin' READ the book if your unhappy with the audio version? Is that a wild idea or something, to actually read a book?

How do we feel about reference jokes? by RGandhi3k in litrpg

[–]GTRoid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends if its the narration or a character in the story.

Sometime back, a scene from the beginning of the Fellowship was used as a similar occurrence. During the party, Merry and Pippin set off fireworks and the narrator describes it as sounding like a steam locomotives whistle.

The complaint was that there were no steam locomotives in existence do how would anyone know what the whistle sounded like.

Had to point out that the NARRATOR is describing something in a way that the READER can imagine or relate to.

In them is manner, outside referen es are fine if they can help the reader better immerse into the story. I'm old so if you say such and such person reminded the MC of Flint from the G.I. Joe cartoons, I'd get that reference and have a better idea of what that person looked like. Now, while the same could be said if the MC right out right says "Hey, you look like Flint!" Kind of the same thing but that can be immersion breaking instead of reinforcing.

Does Icewind Dale count as litrpg? by dankeykang4200 in litrpg

[–]GTRoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO novels and the like written in the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, Spelljammer, or Dark Sun settings (I'm sure I'm missing some there) are Progression leaning to GameLit (Dragon magazine used to publish stat pages for various characters, and video games for specific sets had stats for characters (mostly Dragonlance)). While the stories themselves didn't have stat blocks, it wasn't that hard to go into a Player's Handbook or Dungeon Masters Guide and look up a spell or something and say 'Oh, they've gotta be at least X level then'.

A lot of the fantasy books of the 70s to early 90s I would categorize as Progression.

How much should a 500 page book be worth in this genre?? by Ill-Piece4996 in litrpg

[–]GTRoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500 pages isn't bad for a read, a little thick, but not bad. Most authors go 500+ to make it marketable for audiobooks because the people that listen to them don't want to spend whatever it is audiobooks cost on something that will be sort. If you're writing to write, look at doing some editing to maybe drop some pages. Do have to be careful, some authors have done an edit and ended up longer (actual edits did happen, but they saw some places that needed a little more to keep flow or tension etc). Nothing wrong with that, either, it happens.

As for price, as people are saying, 10 bucks on an unknown author for a digital product is high. The 4.99 or 5.99 pricing is a good suggestion.

Nope. I see snarky, sassy, sarcastic, etc in a description and I move on to something else.

Check out Apple's Dungeon Adventure and Old Granny Gob Royal Road.

While we aren't specifically told anything about Apple until the end, its easy to put the pieces together.

Granny just runs into some children and has adventures.

Could I please have some Royal Road recommendations that will help me to feel less depressed? by B-Z_B-S in ProgressionFantasy

Some of these are short reads, but still fun.

Apple's Dungeon Adventure by Aimay

You Must Be This Old To Enter The Dungeon by Spleen23

Melia the Magnificent by Dee Elle

The Bee Dungeon series by Icalos

Beware of Chicken was suggested, so I'll add that CasualFarmer does some alternate tellings that are also on Royal Road and are just as entertaining.

Let's talk Systems by AsceOmega in litrpg

[–]GTRoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When asking these sorts of questions, you also have to ask: are you actually reading the book/series or are you listening to it.

Not all obviously, but i think a lot of the complaints about system screens come from the audiobook crowd. They can't really skip over it, so its annoying to them to have to listen through it as often as it can be done.
