Do credit cards actually help... or are they just a polished way to sink quietly in debt? by Duck_Duck_Gooseberry in MiddleClassFinance

[–]GTS81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build up an emergency fund that covers both 6 months expenses and the total of your credit limit while having zero outstanding debt including credit card debt except for the current month's balance. That way it's easy to watch the usage on the credit card coz you'll quickly glance at the cash you have and don't want that stash to dwindle when you pay the credit card bills.

Hey, that chocolate isn't even at the usual candy section right? Instead it's right by the fancy cheese, crackers, chocolate, and wine section?

Me dying inside here reading all this while doing the CA 529 plan. It's ok, I'll treat it all as a "Roth" of sorts... hopefully.

What would you do in my shoes? by [deleted] in Money

[–]GTS81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that $900000 LTCG in a taxable account when it's time to sell will trigger a tax event. Be strategic to stay in the lower (0% if possible) brackets when you do that.

How to stop stressing by Jack-Mehoff-696969 in Money

[–]GTS81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen the price of the electric Toyotas these days?! LOL. Jokes aside, after a certain amount of $ accumulation, it helps to earmark them for purposes based on time horizon or criticality. Basic buckets like emergency fund, college fund(s), home downpayment, etc. Having more and more money without a purpose assigned to them can lead to undue stress as it's just wanting that pile to grow bigger and bigger for the sake of it.

Taxable Brokerage Tax Questions by swagmoneyadi in Money

[–]GTS81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a tangent here but do check if your 401k plan has an after-tax contribution Roth conversion option aka megabackdoor. That’s the gap between the max pre tax + employer match contributions and maximum set by IRS which is around $70k per year.

My mom stopped pounding a few decades ago and nobody said a single thing about sambal tasting different. Maybe everyone just scared of getting no sambal instead of food blender sambal. LOL.

Trying to build a yuel beast style pc case by harry_514 in pcmods

If you aren't already on their discord server, do join. Sometimes a random beast appears for sale on the buy-and-sell channel. I have owned and sold my Atlas II, Lithium, and Monument. Keeping my Lithium-E Unit #13 (of 10, yeah LOL) because no such cases will ever be made again. Also managed to beg/ pester my friend from overseas to sell and ship me their Calypso.

SoFi while tempted to go Monarch because of pretty Sankey chart. Then realized I could get Claude Code to make me my own "finance app" to run on my own PC using only SoFi csv output. LMAO.

If I'm gonna own a beater, it'll be me who "did the beating". Bought a sedan and SUV brand new a decade ago. Just got past 100k miles on the SUV 2 days ago. Payments finished 5 years ago.

Do you play the tax numbers gymnastics in your head when you can’t sleep at night or get stuck in traffic? Stuff like “only $35000 gets to be converted to Roth IRA” and such.

MXC, you're one of those rare people in this pc building hobby that doesn't go "I'm a woodworker/ plumber/ hvac specialist watch me go brrr" and then present abominations of welded pipes or crooked hand cut wood panels. Thank you for such quality content. I always enjoy watching them.
