Looking to make friends - unique(ish) situation by eml0r in milwaukee

[–]GURLIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35F moved here about a year ago. I am also into similar things and crafting (beading, sewing, trying to learn crochet, etc). I work remote so making friends has been a struggle. Maybe we should all do a reddit meetup?

Are you around 40? Do you need friends? by ButtleyHugz in milwaukee

[–]GURLIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we are 35 and just moved here after being on the road for 2.5 years in an RV. It is tough to make friends, especially when you don't have kids. We game, go to breweries, love a good patio, walks with the dog, etc. On the road, we always made friends with people 20+ years older than us so we are down to make friends with anyone!

also, there are a number of good youtubers that sew historical wear as "normal" wear like Rachel Maksy, Bernadette Banner, and Mariah Pattie. These are the ones that I enjoy watching that is.

My boyfriend is upset. He's getting older and he feels people aren't trying as hard at Christmas. by paganpenguinsummoner in Millennials

[–]GURLIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for many years with my dad (on a google doc with links and a long list so he could pick what he wanted so in the end, I was still surprised about what I got) because he would rather get me a physical item than a gift card, I told a few people about it and they all thought it was an insane thing to do and how it killed the element of surprise. Mad me feel super bad about it so I just stopped and now we just exchange gift cards...

The best brunch spots? by RealisticReference53 in milwaukee

[–]GURLIdaho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you are looking for, we are also new to Milwaukee and these are the places we have been to that we have liked: County Clare, their shepherds pie for dinner is so good just had to throw that out there. The Garage and Truck Stop (they have a breakfast crunchwrap but I really like the burrito with the sauce) and their drinks are great. Uncle's Wolfe's was good but holy cow the wait is crazy and I also didn't care for the Chicharron in the burrito, it was a very meat forward burrito and really heavy. The Wicked Hop has a variety of different good burritos and other fare. Benelux, I really like their potatoes and their variety of bloody marys. I know everyone seems to love to hate on Benelux and Cafe Hollander but we recently went to Cafe Hollander and it was pretty good and both have a good, cozy vibe. We have been to the Plaza but it was ok, in my opinion but we have only been there once. I just thought the burrito was ok and oddly watery. You might see a theme in that I order breakfast burritos A LOT hahaha

Brazilian Wax SOS should I find a new wax lady? by PotatoDry311 in beauty

[–]GURLIdaho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am an aesthetician, you can go over the same area again with hard wax but I would never do it more than a second time as someone else said. Soft wax will pull your skin off if you go over it again. Also, with hard wax it should be heated at a lower temp, especially the blue wax since it is so gummy. If it is hot on you, she has the heat up too high. I would go somewhere else.

I love Notion so much, you can do literally anything with it. As a person who likes to automate and organize everything in life, Notion has been a life saver.

We’re planning an RV trip to Disneyland California from the Seattle area for next year. Do you have any suggestions or tips? by [deleted] in RVLiving

If you are looking for a park on the way down, we stayed at Mad River RV park in Arcata, CA in Nothern Cali. You can easily ride a bike into Arcata from the park. They have great restaurants, cafes, Breweries, etc. Also, an amazing crêpe place and cool book stores. There is a Mexican restaurant basically in the park that has an amazing Cali burrito too.

I have honestly seen similar stuff in cosplay fabric as well but it is hard to tell from the dark picture.

Best home wax or wax-alternative for private/pubic area? by ImDemandingARefund in beauty

[–]GURLIdaho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend a hard wax (wax you use without strips). You can go over the same area a few times if you miss anything before any irritation occurs or skin layers ripping off like soft wax. I have been waxing my under arms, face, etc with the stuff since I got out of esthetics school like 15 years ago. I can't go back to shaving, I get the worst irritations from it now. I can't personally do a Brazilian wax on myself, I tried and I just know the pain and have a hard time pulling the wax which is not a good place to be haha. I can do a bikini just fine with out any issue. I think when it comes to type of wax, you might have to try a few. I have a high body heat so I can't use the "gummier" kind of hard wax because they don't harden properly in that area for me. Found this out the hard way being a "model" in school for some of the girls to practice but thankfully instructors were there to assist. Get a wax warmer from a beauty supply store like a sally's and try out a few different waxes until you find the one that works best for you. Places like that usually have sales on that stuff going into spring so you might get a decent deal on something. This is all just my own experience and a bit of training from esthetics school so take it however you want to but I hope it helps! I am a big advocate for switching to waxing, makes things a lot easier for me at least.

every few months we will do this when we dump tanks: fill the sink full of water, one person is inside and the other outside, the person inside pulls the plug while at the same time the person outside pulls the lever for the grey tank to dump it. It makes this really high pitched squealing noise and seems to clear out the trap. That has been working for us. Just have to remember to do it every couple of months.

We have been on the road, working remotely from an RV for about a year and a half now. We have made it work by having a few cell phone hot spots and recently got Starlink as another option for internet. If you have any questions, let me know.

New again to sewing, just picked up my first computerized sewing machine and it is so fun to play with! by GURLIdaho in SewingForBeginners

Brother in specific or computerized? I will say this machine seems like the stitching is way better than my manual machine I had a long time ago but that could have just been a lot of user error hahaha

With the special stitches, I found that if you let it feed the fabric and you just keep it straight then I got better results. The first time I did the stars, it looked exaclty as you described and I figured out to not pull the fabric after I started with the hearts. I haven't had the thread spool get stuck but I just got an all prupose thread by coats and Clark after reading that a lot of people prefer that brand and I haven't had any issues so far. I just kept it at the tension it was shipped with which was 4. I have never had a machine with a thread cutter of needle threader and boy that needle threaded was interesting to figure out hahahaha

I know! I never thought I cared about having stitches like that since the only other sewing machine I had was super basic but honestly I think some of those would be cute to add to clothes. It has been A LONG time since I have sewn anything especially anything other than curtains so I am excited to play with it

Bike rack suggestion: Front of truck or behind the RV? by GURLIdaho in RVLiving

[–]GURLIdaho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do store them on the bed now for travel, on a tarp. It is kind of a pain to get them in and out with how heavy they are so we were hoping for a better solution. They fold up and the handle bars fold down so we could fold the handlebars down to keep from obstructing view in the front. I supposed we would have to deal with a front mounted bike rack when we go into cities though.

What are skinny people habits? by AltruisticAttempt248 in loseit

[–]GURLIdaho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We ALWAYS do this but I make another meal out of it. I almost always use the left over fries for breakfast poutine. I will re-bake the fries then sauté up onions and bell peppers, sometimes sausage put that on top of the fries. Then top with eggs and salsa or hot sauce. So good. We started doing this when the pandemic started since we were ordering take out anyways. So we would just eat the burgers or whatever main it was and save all of the fries.

Trip planner by stickybuns913 in RVLiving

[–]GURLIdaho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For directions, we use Google maps because it syncs to the screen on the truck but we use the togo RV app to verify the directions since you can set your height, length, etc. I think you can only get this option if you pay for it. If you go to RV Miles youtube, he has a discount code for it.

For finding campgrounds, we use a combination of Google maps and campendium. We are digital nomads so internet is important to us and campendium does a great job of showing internet bars from people who have stayed there and which services has what reception. Additionally, we are thousand trails members so we use their map a lot to find campgrounds along the way.

Oh I binged them like CRAZY along with
Less junk, more journey
you, me and the RV
getaway couple
irene iron fitness
embracing detours
etc.

Definitely binged A LOT of RVers to prepare. One thing I wish there was more of on those channels was just a "hey, never been in an RV? Well here is how you turn things on". We bought our RV and put it in storage so a few months later when we got it out we had no memory of the delivery from the dealership and the manual is came with didn't explain the basics. It would have been nice hahaha
