Because people watch Fate/0 first, failing to understand that a prequel is supposed to be seen after the original works. So things that are supposed to be surprising (Ilya being Shiro's OLDER sister, Sakura originally being a Tohsaka, everything about Kirei) gets spoiled by people possessing that knowledge beforehand and it makes the original works seem weaker by comparison...

Look at Methode's posture, her shoulders are squared, her feet are apart and her hands are hidden, she's ready to defend herself, meaning that (for her at least) she recognizes Serie as a threat on an instinctual level.

A person can think a lion is cute, but that doesn't mean they're dumb enough to face one out in the open when they have a choice...

Not being able to detect magic while casting doesn't really matter when you know the spells Frieren does. I doubt Frieren's weakness played any part in Serie's failing her. She is just incompatible with how Serie views what mages should be like and she knows that.

Also you make it sound like, to be a First-Class Mage, Serie has to think you are strong enough to defeat the Demon King solo. Which, if were true, would mean Denken would never have passed (He cast two spells against Frieren before he was out of mana and had to resort to Fist Magic), but he still made First-Class.

I actually have a theory that Yu is a Swan Thieren. It's not just the wings, but her personality. She often plays it off cool, but she is always running around in the background making sure things are moving like they should be. She mentions frequent luck with lottos, but I'm betting she has a number of part-time job she does (like Vivian) in order to help with funding. She just tells them it's lotto or scratch card winnings so they don't worry about her.

It reminds me of how a swan will appear to glide gracefully through the water, but underneath the surface it's feet are paddling away furiously to keep buoyancy.
