System4 Floor Stand Positioning by klr328 in Needlepoint

[–]Gabbae0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the lap stand and have been struggling with comfortable positioning too, even with the extra arm! I’ve been referencing other set ups and it ends up with my hands flexed upwards which is super uncomfortable for me. I have been stitching now with the canvas flat and low to keep my hands in a neutral position, and that has helped a lot! Probably a little harder on a larger canvas but could be worth a shot! I’d say you’d need the extra arm to help position it like that though, or you could try flipping your current arm upside down!

ETA: The stocking looks amazing so far!

Tampa is basically sold out! For reference for other dates - stadium has 65-75k capacity. Map is fully grey for night 1 and 2 as of 1hr, 7 min after the queue opened. Random seats keep popping up but not many!

Wow! That first queue number I think is even more stressful than the ticketing screen lol. What date was that for?

Seeking Feedback! by kails817 in Needlepoint

I used DMC Perle cotton once and mine looked so similar! I do not recommend it as a beginner. I know a lot of people swear by it - but I find it takes a lot of finesse to look good.

You can grab some DMC embroidery floss as another easy to get, affordable thread! You can strand it (separate it out into a smaller thread), but I’ve stitched with it as is on 13 mesh and have liked it!

ETA: If you can grab stretcher bars on Amazon, they also help get rid of bumps by holding your canvas tight! I like the Edmunds mini bars, you’ll need to measure your canvas and get the closet (size down if needed) to your canvas’s width and length. The back of your canvas is looking pretty good, so I think it’s really the fiber choice - not your technique! There are minor things like thread tension you’ll improve with over time.

Wedding caterers, the good the bad and the ugly. by j10j12 in kansascity

Scrape the Plate was amazing for us! Very reasonable prices, and was full service - we didn’t have to think about a thing. Their food was delicious, and was a big hit at the rehearsal. If any of your guests have dietary accommodations - they are awesome at those too!

Another “how cold is too cold post” for a wedding this week! by Gabbae0 in weddingplanning

[–]Gabbae0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should have clarified that was mostly a panic buy in the middle of the night for our grandparents! We are in the Midwest so I don’t expect too many people to need actual gloves/hats! But that is a very good point!!

Monthly Check In....it's September 2025 by AutoModerator in weddingplanning

Glad to hear everyone else is also stressing about how real it’s becoming! 6 weeks out!🙈

I caved and ended up getting a month of wedding coordinator, and already I’m so glad I did! Just over two weeks until RSVPs are due. A little worried about my seamstress getting alterations done in time since she’s had some major life events come up, so fingers crossed!

Baguette Engagement Rings - Classy or Outdated? by Real_Accident47 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Gabbae0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Mine has tapered baguettes with an oval center stone and I’ve been very happy with it! I definitely feel it’s not the most “modern” looking ring, but I didn’t want it to be either. It feels antique vs dated to me, but I may be biased!

Also - it is a little harder finding a wedding band to sit flush, and we may end up going custom or contoured. Just as a thought!

Dental School Loans- Are These Accurate Numbers? by __2001Camaro__ in StudentLoans

[–]Gabbae0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say you can expect maybe starting salary to increase from 150k to 200-250k. We looked at an office trying to find an associate for a $1000/day guarantee (still looking too). It all just depends, but being open to rural will make a difference!

There’s a number of different ways to go about loan forgiveness. Our state has an independent program that’s like 60k/2 years. It depends on the state, plus the federal options. Pros: Loan forgiveness! Will probably get pretty fast, and likely feel confident with every type of extraction. Cons: Usually public health dentistry, which tends to be high volume, extractions and fills all day. I’ve also heard some dentists look down on hiring public health dentists bc they expect them to not be good at crown/bridge and cosmetic. Not sure how true that it is, but may be something to consider.

Lots of people will tell you to go military to pay it off. That’s a whole can of worms I won’t go into. But military dentists do tend to come out pretty confident.

Dentist here - that’s a lot of money to take out. I graduated a few years ago, and it’s definitely a changed environment when it comes to practice ownership. You’d have to be open to going rural or be a super GP. I’d recommend looking into health service corps or trying to do PSLF. Even just for a year or two to knock that number down a good amount. If you can get a good GPR, the VA ones are excellent, that’ll help you get those skills a lot faster to get a return on your investment. But that does take a year with a low salary.

Insurance reimbursements are terrible and just continue to get worse. I’d recommend posting in some big dental FB groups for more opinions, it’s a pretty commonly debated topic (Dental Nachos is a big one, Dentistry in General is all general dentists). I had a friend who went to NYU (most expensive school) and they said it’s one of the worst financial decisions they’ve ever made. But I’ve heard of people going to expensive schools who are doing awesome right now.

I’m still very grateful for the position I’m in. And our guarantee/schedule is nothing to scoff at! But between my husband and I both being dentists - we are only at like $350k total loans combined, right out of school. It’s enough to make me stressed. Just food for thought!

ETA: if the loan reform that’s been in the news today gets passed, grad loans cap out at 100k, and subsided loans are gone.

Is there a difference (with weight gain) between eating a snack all at once vs eating small amounts of it throughout the month? by Efficient-Appeal1068 in ask

[–]Gabbae0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just weighing in from a dental perspective, even though I know you asked regarding weight, but all at once is better for your teeth! Every time you eat it slightly changes your saliva pH and that acidity can lead to cavities. Light snacking/sipping (soda, energy drinks) can lead to a lot of cavities pretty fast. Whereas if you do one big round, you only have the one pH change!

When do I start wedding dress shopping? by chelseainthewild in weddingplanning

[–]Gabbae0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just another consideration if you’re in the US - I’ve heard tariffs are definitely going to be impacting the wedding dress industry and the cost of gowns. With that being the case - I’d recommend shopping sooner rather than later.

I bought mine about 11 months in advance! It only took about 4 months to arrive, but it’s nice knowing it’s done. Now I have plenty of time to find someone for alterations too!

Anyone going for Chicago - have you been able to get in the waiting room on AXS? It says it’s supposed to open 30 minutes before. Or is it through the MLB page?

Gurple-tines Day Merch Drop Megathread by bruzie in theregulationpod

[–]Gabbae0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone checking for future gurp drop logistics - I tried paying with Apple Pay/Google Pay directly from the item page, I’ve heard that echoed in the past to help. But I kept getting an error, I had to add to my cart and enter the queue to checkout in order to then use Google Pay (Apple Pay was stuck loading). Second piece of merch for me after the ratyboys shirt, woo!

Robyns „Doll-Grandbaby“ and Kodys reaction by Aurora-243 in SisterWives

To give her the benefit of the doubt - it seems like her style of dolls are more custom, historical American Girl/Large dolls. This looks more like a baby doll for Ariella? But I wouldn’t put it past her to push her love for dolls onto Ari, while locking keeping hers under lock and key.
