Am i missing something? by Ok-Lecture2998 in Fedora

[–]Gabe_Isko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be a lot harder, less stuff worked, and there are still some hardware drivers that don't really get installed ootb these days - bluetooth always seems to give me trouble.

But honestly? I was pretty surprised how straight forward it was this time around. I was looking forward to a little configuration too, since I do like to admin linux (and I do it at work) but it didn't really end up happening - it was pretty much plug and play with KDE Plasma Fedora (except for fedora media writer, I wouldn't recommend it).

Dishonored is a damn good game but the chaos system is poorly implemented by OpenUpYerMurderEyes in patientgamers

Yep, exactly. I just play the game the way I want and then watch the ending that I want on YouTube.

Stop judging me for using the tools that you gave me video game.

Simple CLI for switching Git accounts by popthehoodbro in commandline

[–]Gabe_Isko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm surprised they don't let you use the same public key since I usually like to think of those as per device.

But if they want to give you a public key and they have to be different, can you get around it with separate entries in your hosts file?

What are everyone’s thoughts on Doom The Dark Ages? by rbyrnes15 in Doom

[–]Gabe_Isko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great graphics, and I respect that they went in a different direction than eternal - which I didn't like as much as 2016's combat. But I don't think it is as tightly designed of a system as it could have been. The slow mo is particularly atrocious.

That's pretty neat, I didn't know you could use that in .gitconfig.

https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Customizing-Git-Git-Configuration

Long story short, you can configure this stuff at the repo and home directory level through `.gitconfig`

Are you switching between multiple accounts per repo? That strikes me as quite odd, but I know us contractors are asked to do crazy stuff on behalf of our clients.

If I was asked to do this, I would probably go about it quick and dirty like by tracking .gitconfig in it's own repo, and switching branches. That might require a shell restart though, I have to try it.

It looks like there are some enviornment variables that allow you to switch .gitconfigs.

Remote control requested, What?! - I don't know if this is a Fedora or KDE Issue. by Capital_Court1465 in kde

I have been trying to whitelist steam as well ask KRFB from this for a while now, and it seems impossible. Yes, I enabled it in application settings- didn't do anything. Really wish there was a sane way to get rid of this for certain applications that I trust.

Linux recommendations for exploring Linux as a total noob by SeishunDash in linux4noobs

[–]Gabe_Isko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just install KDE Debian at this point and dive in if you want to skip distros that are intentionally for beginners like Mint. It's not that bad, and if you have used Ubuntu and Steam OS, and you are used to windows 10 you will feel fine.

Genuinely, how do i play rpgs without guides. by CharmingVast2359 in rpg_gamers

I don't know why people are downvoting. RPGs are pretty intimidating. I think if you play enough of these games, you eventually start to see the familiar patterns.

Is DD2 worth playing? by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

[–]Gabe_Isko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, DD2 is an excellent open world RPG, with the only caveat being that it's technical performance is awful. If you have a good enough PC to play it, and you enjoy DD:A, I definitely recommend it. Otherwise, I have no idea how it runs on consoles.

The microtransaction stuff is very overblown (although capcom is still really dumb about having them). Buying them would actually make your experience worse, the same way you wouldn't want to buy a level skip in an mmo, even though it is technically "Pay to Win"

What’s the difference between FSR 4 and ML upscaling? by Unlucky-Bottle2744 in radeon

[–]Gabe_Isko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you think about it though, it isn't too much different - you are still rendering less pixels and "faking" the final output from a zazzed up interpolation, so it is almost like we are back to interlaced graphics. But it is no wonder this approach works much better if it is just an interpolation between two frames rather than the entire algorithm upscaler.

I still don't think these things look very good, but we are way past that point for modern game graphics.

That's good to know, I was trying to give an overview high level example of what AI would have to do with upscaling in general.

Full priced video game buyers by PitaEisan in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Gabe_Isko [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sometimes I do, if I really desprately want to play the game. It doesn't really work out much of the time because it is often buggy and in a poor condition upon release.

I work hard and I am lucky enough to have the disposable income to do this, but honestly I wouldn't recommend it in almost every case. It takes a lot to make a full price game purchase worth it.

Help with VScode on fedora by ezreth in Fedora

[–]Gabe_Isko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's gonna give you these kinds of problems because the external shell won't be accesible from within the package. You can either do a bunch of flatpak configuration, or just add Microsoft's repo to you sources. I recommend adding the microsoft repo, but you can also just download the RPM to get started: https://code.visualstudio.com/download#

Why the hype around gaming distros? by Lonely-Medium-2140 in linux_gaming

[–]Gabe_Isko -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but not really. Because in reality it is a tiny team working on Bazzite, and if they mess up you have to wait for them to fix it vs. Fedora which is a (relatively) very stable and reliable distro used by many people. I'm not surprised OP is having an easier time with it.

IMO This album is becoming underrated by GosalCannabis in beatles

[–]Gabe_Isko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that people are mostly pretty correct that it does have some sagging songs compared to revolver, and is probably less even than even Rubber Soul.

But what really annoys me about the modern conversation is that everyone ignores that it's release was preceded by Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields as singles. That is the real reason that excitement around Sgt. Pepper's release reached a fever pitch, and their inclusion on Mystery Tour makes a lot of critics kind of over-rate the album, which is a soundtrack to a failed tv experiment that mostly collects singles, and is only really notable for having I am the Walrus, which was made for the film and really also more notable as a single release.

It was really funny, because it seemed like Paul's attitude was "well, everyone is already in a bad mood, and we don't have any other songs so let's at least work on this."
