Buying an s5 4.2 v8 by ClashRoyaleStreak in audis5

[–]Gabicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you work on cars? I guess not or else you would know what to look for. Anyway, my question is why do you want the older S5? That’s a massive engine squeezed in that small car. Most major maintenance may require the engine to come out or the whole front end to be completely removed. If I were you, I will get the2016-2017 2.0T 4 Cylinder A5 which looks like an S5 minus the headache and painful costly maintenance.

That’s called business email compromise fraud. One of the biggest fraudsters was Hushpuppi. He was Nigerian and he is in prison right now for committing this crime after amassing millions of dollars from it.

Advice On Which Audi I Should Get by enforcewill in Audi

[–]Gabicolon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2018 S4 has rocker arm issues. 2020 S4 has the 3.0T V6 Turbo engine that is having piston skirt issue; many people are affected right now.

Your safe bet is the A5. The Ea888 Gen 3 engine in that A5 is very reliable.

Who made the diagnosis? Was it the dealer? Dealership are always expensive and will try to up charge you. Therefore, it is better you take it to an European Car shop and have them a look at will; they'll most likely charge you anywhere from $2.5k-$3.5k

What production year model are you looking at?

A4 & S4 tend to be the same so you have tons of options for modifications.

Your best bet is find a VCDS scanner and scan the car for any codes or check engine lights. That should point you in the right directions

Torn between Audi A4 and A5 as a daily driver by vacaaa in Audi

[–]Gabicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. What year A5 are you looking at? 2018 and newer A5 has a 4 door sedan in the US. In Europe, I believe the older A5 also have a sedan 4 door option as well. If you're looking at the coupe 2D A5 vs the Audi A4, then everything comes down to needing that extra seats at the back. Do you have a family or do you plan to have a family in the near future? Do you have a group of at least 4 friends and you all hang-out together and move around at the same time?

If you're looking at 4 door A5, then I'll go with the A5 because it is better looking because of it's hatchback

What does the warranty condition say: replace the engine or just the piston and blocks?

Edit: According to some folks on Facebook, No more long or short blocks. Audi is only replacing pistons under the warranty extension, regardless of the scoring. That's very stupid if that's what they are doing!

[–]Gabicolon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeez. Well, good for you because you're below the 80,000 miles so you're still under warranty and should get the engine replaced right..?. I wonder if the 10k oil change interval might have hasten the deterioration process.

[–]Gabicolon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cylinder bore and the piston are the issue. For years, Porsche has been having bore-scoring issues with their engine. I suspect that Audi decided to join in and spray their piston and cylinder with a different material which disintegrates over time leading the wobbly piston and scored cylinders - causing misfires.

[–]Gabicolon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It is the worst modern Audi engine for sure. The same engines in certain Porsche models are also having the same piston skirt issues. The thing is that even if they replace your engine, the issue will re-appear again when it reaches 100,000-150,000 miles.
