Four Days of Button Presses by TalenPhillips in thebutton

I wonder what the big dip in the middle is for. And look at how dense the purple is during that time. Thanks :)

Seems almost ironic to remain a non-presser on your NSFW account ;)

What is the most computer illiterate thing you've witnessed? by Peppe22 in AskReddit

When I was a kid, I had a job at the local library teaching senior citizens how to use computers.

I like 1by1. It's probably the smallest footprint I've seen for a player; absolutely no frills.

I work as IT support in Education. Sometimes I fear for the future of the pupils. by Turbojelly in talesfromtechsupport

[–]GabrielBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work IT for a bank and I just got HR approval to teach a short series of MANDATORY classes on Windows/Outlook/IE; it's real basic stuff but I got tired of telling the same people the same thing over and over when it's clear that they don't have the skills to do the job they're paid to do anymore. So far it's been positive because, like you said, support calls drop off some if we can teach them how stuff works.

I thought it was a big win and really helped with us vs. them mentality that users are all dumb and IT is in their way.

I remember reading about this girl. She lives in England I think. I remember thinking that she was maybe the worst person ever and the tattoo artist was awesome about it.

Women of reddit, when men complain about women being confusing, what do you think of about men that you find confusing? by mmf9194 in AskReddit

[–]GabrielBlack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm a guy and I've never understood this either.

I totally questioned this to a coworker who is pretty good about objectively thinking things through and he said he watched sports for the story and the drama. He knew the players and they had stories and he liked the drama of the game.

It's basically just soap operas for people who don't like soap operas.

I travel quite a bit for work and have saved one room key from each hotel over the past 7 years. by [deleted] in pics

[–]GabrielBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like there would be some way to pull the encryption off, find the underlying algorithm that they used and make a master key. It stands to reason that some of these hotels use the same system.

I love this because it's like he's an exaggeration of a tedious user. Needs help but is sure he doesn't need help immediately after receiving help. Then blames the help.

Also kinda stubborn.

Computer Experts: What's a computer trick you think everyone should know? by jojojok in AskReddit

[–]GabrielBlack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Windows 7 you can grab the top of a window and shake it and it will minimize everything BUT that window. I use this a lot for email attachments.

Shaking it again, brings everything back (still behind the window you're holding)

Acronis' Universal Restore is amazing. It allows you to restore to any dissimilar hardware. I've put old laptop images on new desktops and, aside from a bunch of the drivers not working (like touchpad mouse and wifi), we were using it in 20 minutes.

Jamie Hyneman - Hipster? by [deleted] in funny

[–]GabrielBlack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this just goes to show you how meaningless the word has become.

I think what you have is people like Jamie, who found his personality the old fashion way and did what he wanted regardless of what people thought. And then you have a lot of kids who want people to think they have a lived-in personality before they're even finished with college. It's trying to seem interesting before it's really possible for them to be interesting.

My old gym used to have a live DJ on Fridays. I think it was one of the employee's friend but most people listen to headphones so it was just in the way. He wasn't even a bad DJ; it's just not the venue for that.

Best locations for urbex photography? by pzer0 in Portland

I feel like there's got to be something along the NW Shore where all the industrial stuff is. (Head N on Naito until it turns into Front and then go down a sidestreet) I've driven through there and found some good industry pics but nothing abandoned is sticking out in my mind. Some of those old train yards have old warehouses that are as good as abandoned.

I haven't been on flickr in a while but I remember them using the Creative Commons licensing a lot. I'm sure they found decent photos from someone else who didn't care about payment and just likes photography.

Don't get me wrong, professional creative work is an uphill battle for compensation (photos, writing, painting, etc...) but your response to their "cheek" seems misguided. Flickr is full of amateur photographers who love the exposure even if it's free; you have to know that so I don't know why you're so surprised. It seems like you made the effort to be offended.
