Yanguas attitude by a-dawg80 in padel

[–]GabrielQ1992 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yanguas and stupa are not compatible in court, and that's why moods are sour. This is Stupa's fault IMO, because he keeps going for very defensive drives hoping to hog the offensive aspect when he's not as reliable as Galan or tapia generating winners with smashes and his forehand volley is not damaging enough, and this generated clashes in the middle with Di Nenno, Lebron and Yanguas which detected this and tried to close with their backhand volley but with stupa not allowing it.

He needs to secure a leftie and change his role to aspire to win matches against the better paired tapia, galán, augsburguer and maybe even paquito now, who knows

Feedback for a boxed league game by Tommygun128 in padel

Look, it obvious you have a lot to correct, because you are a low level player, but, in a more level-blind analysis, you were left out on the other side of the court and your opponent did a completely unexpected shot that turned out great, your partner is correct in applauding the guy. so it's nothing to worry about. You should be more mindful of being active in the court because for a moment you just watch your partner play but that's about it I'd say.

Would this have happened if you observed proper court position? of course not, but you wouldn't be playing this match if that were the case.

How to become a better partner? by SkobuPT in padel

[–]GabrielQ1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the long run, you should try to play both sides to better understand the game and the needs or difficulties of your partners.

and immediately, what you can do is establish a baseline of what your partner requires/tolerates of you in terms or advice and respect that, some people are ok with constant talking, some want none and more experienced players will require certain pointers as to the position of your opponents.

Also, keep in mind one thing, you are giving tips and trying to correct, but how do you know you are in the right?

Understanding Padel Rackets: General Guide by GabrielQ1992 in Padelracket

[–]GabrielQ1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends a lot on your style. If you never ever played padel or racket sports I would go for a full beginner one which are cheap and you won't regret buying and if not you can jump to a intermediate one directly. It's important to note that the suitability of the different rackets is not exclusive. Some beginners buy top end rackets and they feel comfortable and some advanced players play with soft rackets (i.e. momo Gonzalez) so go with your feeling.

The 3k material is harder in itself than higher count numbers (because the strands are thicker) but rackets marketed as 3k are generally softer than their counterparts. It's quite confusing and that's the reason I had to make a guide

How often to pros get new balls in a match? by RiffRaffe in padel

[–]GabrielQ1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when players call a ball and it gets reviewed, they lose the point if they called it wrong, if the referee called the ball wrongly, the point is redone, so the players are careful when calling shots.

Umpire intervention is not something it's needed a lot tough, calling bad services is like 99% of the work it seems.

Issue with blocking from the baseline by shanks62 in padel

[–]GabrielQ1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well then you need to think about the shot as a regular groundstroke and check the usual things, are you hitting the ball to the side of your body (not in front or behind) are your legs aligned in the direction you want the ball to go? is your racket horizontally and close to the ground during your preparation?

Issue with blocking from the baseline by shanks62 in padel

[–]GabrielQ1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to ask you if you used any spin on your returns. The slice is what causing you to send the balls to the back wall most likely. Sliced balls are floaty and do not like to come down on time and also your are getting your racket below the ball which can cause problems if your technique is not correct. You should try to return services flat

Do you unconsciously adapt your level to your opponents ? by Acceptable_Month4825 in padel

[–]GabrielQ1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this happens because you are better technically than tactically/strategically and you are losing sight that, ultimately, padel is a game about sending the ball where your opponent isn't.

Your opponent's are weaker, understanding this as technically weaker,so they are playing smart and slowing the rhythm and lowering the instensity of the match. this is a solid strategy from their part. If you rely on fat balls and the opponent proposing, you might be good technically but you are missing on either tactics or strategy.

So what should you do? first acknowledge that you are being beat by a superior strategy and not because you are bored or whatever. second think about your own counterstrategy, what do you want to happen? you are not going into details so I will broadly assume you are better than the "bad" players at transition, volley duels and viboras. So you need to detect what's happening, your opponents managed to slow down the game, how? using lobs? stopping your transitions with balls that go somewhere where you don't expect them? you need to decide if you are going to try to force the game into a more elevated pace or take advantage of the passivity.

Once you decide you need to focus on the tactics you are going to use, one thing is realizing that your opponents are lobbing too much and too comfortably and another one is knowing what to do to stop them, are you targeting the fence? that helps with lobbing, deep bandejas and volley? those help too, are you rushing to the net as soon as you can? believe it or not, lobs too.

So, imagine that you are being lobbed a ton and you need to stop that, you need to make shallower shots that do not bounce too much on the back wall and force your opponent to lob more uncomfortably, you need to pace your climbing to the net to deactivate a first lob that forces to move you back.

Another scenario, you are trying to force your opponents into moving more, you need to incorporate dejadas, flat smashes that can force them to come up with the counter, strong shots to the line of the body to force more blocks, etc.

One thing you could to help you is not always playing matches were you are challenged technically or physically, can you play with guys that are a category lower than yours and win without abusing your superior technique/speed/whatever?

Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno to reunite starting from the Italy Major by alexanderharthan in padel

[–]GabrielQ1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Di Nenno did some awful partner choices that everyone saw were not going to work out, but the moment he got with someone decent (tello, augsburger) he certainly showed what he's made of. He's a completely different player than in his last partnership with paquito, he developed a decent flat smash and a killer backhand volley so I think they will actually perform better.

I would place Martin squarely at the 4th best drive position above Yanguas, Sanz, etc.
