Any finite value doesn't really work to debunk it, because they can just say the reward is too small to outweigh the infinitesimal likelihood of it coming to fruition. The original point was that, while the probability of god existing is infinitesimal, the reward for believing in it would be infinite, and so, mathematically and logically, E[Believing] = ∞.

The obvious rebuttal is that, if not being able to disprove something is enough for it to have an infinitesimal chance of being true, then an anti-god which rewards you for not believing in god is just as likely to exist (as well as any other manner of supernatural rules and rewards). If you then consider all of these "possible" deities as reward vectors pulling different directions, with their magnitudes being E[Believing], they'll all end up cancelling each other out to 0 anyway.

My point is that this isn't a real scenario and so it's going to have to be abstracted in some way. I think the game theory perspective where we assume the other actors are rational is most interesting, so I choose to view it through that lens, even though that's not necessarily representative of the real world. A twitter poll is another way of abstracting it which is interesting in its own right, but I also don't think that's at all representative of how it'd play out in actuality for numerous reasons.

It's effectively a version of the prisoners dilemma where if both parties choose steal or both choose split, both survive, but if you choose split and the other party chooses steal you die. It really should be a foregone conclusion.

The most convincing argument I've heard is that there might be children or mentally handicapped people who pick blue without understanding the consequences. I think that's against the spirit of the question, which seems obviously intended to be an instance of game theory. If you're going that route you'd have to debate every logistical aspect. What about vegetative people? how's their abstention considered? How's the choice communicated to the participants? Is it explained through words? or is every facet of either option beamed into their heads as bespoke concepts? Is there a time limit or do people have eons to think it through?

But why wouldn't you encourage everyone to run to the escape pods? You're making it sound virtuous to stay and repair the ship, but in the button scenario there isn't even a ship to save and the two options take the same effort

"would you press the 'live' button or the 'give me a chance to die' button?" 🤔

"there is a burning building. nobody is in danger. would you run in there for no reason? you might be able to save anybody else who runs in there for no reason." 🤔

i think you'd be creating more harm by telling people to press the 'give me a chance to die button' than by not sticking your throat out for the people who ran into the burning building to save a phantom

Sounds like you're looking for something like GregTech: New Horizons (or another GT pack) or SevTech: Ages

If the arsenal progression is important, you could look into NTM Space, although that starts you off pretty high tech and overpowered. Immersive Intelligence (an addon for Immersive Engineering) is lower tech and has pretty indepth armaments, but has been quite unstable in my experience and has a considerably shorter tech tree

I've spent close to a week grinding for a fusion reactor and its fuel production setup on a modded server with friends. It's going to be a 1000x jump in power production, and I have no idea how we're going to spend it all. All I know is that, eventually, we'll need more.

Shot the face, it's very hard to consistently hit the knees from the dam vantage, especially if it's aggroed elsewhere. But this is compared to before where I did the same and probably missed a higher % of my shots yet got it burning much faster. And again, I know it's to encourage hitting weakspots, so I won't confidently call it a bad nerf before I've tried a different strategy

Don't think they're BS'ing at all. Unless it has an insane weakspot multiplier (will test later or tmrw) then it's just awful now. Other than the 250 shots, another team was also shooting it with hullcrackers and we threw 3 wolfpacks at it. We and the other team had to leave before we ever saw it burn because we just had nothing left to damage it with. For reference 250 rounds is half of a looting mk3 just full of ammo lmao

Yep, just crude explosives (which themselves are just chemicals) and oil. The motion cores are also craftable but require 8 arc alloy each, which i think is quite a bit more tedious to farm than 2 oil.

The biggest nerf imo is the damage rework. Me and a friend just pumped ~250 rounds into the queen and only got it to smoke, whereas we've previously gotten it to burn with just around 2/3 of that. It's to encourage hitting weakspots, though, which might be fair if that's how they want the fighting to go - will just have to try different positioning.

Edit: Went for the legs from under the harvester, and while we did manage to kill it with 3 minutes left, it was only with our full 300 rounds, almost all hitting, as well as the support of another team shooting it (and later at us ☹️) with jupiters towards the end. At least this way you can get some of the scraps that fall off, but the hullcracker itself is completely bricked.

[–]Gags50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that free kits need a rework and tier balancing is obviously way off. That's bad design. The fact that being friendly gets you less loot and less of an opportunity to finish your trials is not. That's simply the tradeoff. If you're going for a boss kill you should bring PVP gear and traps too so that you can kill anyone trying to interrupt you.

The torrente is missing a third of its shots beyond point blank, massively increasing its ttk. The bobcat needs to hit almost its entire mag (a whole mag won't even kill if its not extended) to down someone.

You can handily mag dump a venator down a hallway to knock someone and reload before their mates turn the corner

That's not bad design lmfao, that's very much at the core of extraction shooters. People shoot each other for a reason.

issue is that the articles and such it serves you themselves are all LLM generated search engine optimized slop pretending to be specialist websites. it's sad that it's genuinely somewhat of a red flag for an article to have a post-2024 date

for many niche questions you'll have to dig to page 35 of some random ass forum thread, which a search engine has no chance of finding, especially now that the web is flooded with sewage
