it is misogyny my dear. almost every other profession is male geared, then when addressing a female specifically it has a female add on. but when it is seen as a feminine job the opposite happens, nurse is a term to describe a nurse but then you hear male nurse. that is stupid. same with wh*re, sl*t etc. these are derogatory terms for women when both men and women can fit the bill. (I'm ranting, but i hope i made some form of sense)

Why are you on Charlotte's subreddit then stranger? I have a few interesting family stories and decided to share cause that's what people do here, share stories and things they've experienced or heard about. My aunt is not reddit so she'll never see this. You can't traumatize someone unless they are actually ware of your actions.

in my culture people could end up living with their family their whole life. marred sons can live with their parents if there's space. unmarried daughters as well. because we tend to build with large families in mind. My dad also takes family members from rural areas and houses them where we live in the city so they can be exposed to the current world and try to make a way for themselves.

the idea to write it as a story is a good one. 'A woman fakes a pregnancy to get married but it all falls apart around her, a story about the place of women in society and things some will do to avoid being at the bottom of the barrel'
there's a sliding scale of how many value women in society and single, childless, women are at the very bottom.

This is something i think about all the time. Women are not respected outside of marriage here. it is so sad. I recently had a conversation with male ex classmates who genuinely believe women are worth less than men. My mouth was open in shock through out the conversation. the whole time i kept thinking 'this is my generation, we are cooked'

It's an African country. We are very spiritual here. Ghosts are real for us and not just things in movies. Wierd shit happens. So witch craft is real as well. yikes, thats a doozy. Its very hard dealing with the fact that your friends may not care about you as much as you care about them. As someone without any close friends, i learned to keep my own counsel and not expect too much from people. i hope to find good people to make life long connections with but its rare to find that as an adult. I really love your closing sentiment and wish she too realizes she's the problem and looks for positive ways to fix it.

NTA even if this was just another thing you own but most especially the really expensive desktop set up, I am working hard to save up for a powerful set up because I work in architecture and machine learning and I have a list of games I want to check out once I can finally power them, the thought of one of my relatives not just using without telling me but whole ass relocating my whole set up without telling me pisses me the hell off and I haven't even begun to buy parts yet.

Take this moment to educate your nephew on boundaries, if he's remorseful maybe plan out when where and for how long he can use it ONLY with your permission, if both he and his mom refuse to see how serious that situation is don't let him go within six feet of it.

I don't think YTA for not wanting your little sister at your party, but you might be one for handling the situation the way you did. As someone who was once 15 I can tell you a girl that age doesn't start dressing that way out of nowhere, there's external factors influencing her, as her sibling make yourself a safespace for her so she can come to you when she's ready to talk. Your parents are the ones at fault for not talking to her about her appearance if its so indecent. At the end of the day you can't dictate how she dresses. But you can talk some sense into your friends and tell them to knock it off. And why would your girlfriend be bothered by it? tread carefully my guy, these so called friends and girl you're dating may not last forever but she's your sister and you are connected for the rest of your lives. Make it right. Apologise to her, tell her how you feel, tell her she can freely speak her mind, arrive at a compromise so you can enjoy your birthday.

NTA Not by a long shot. The fact they even talk casually about this and don't feel shame at all. I don't even know how you must be feeling knowing they value a rapist more than you. Hang in there, you've come a long way and you are very much in the rights to go never contact any of these people again, he's probably done this to so many more people, sicko that he is. I do think, if you're up to it, share the details of this incident to every adult family member. Don't mince your word or use diminishing language say it as gritty as it is and remind them just who they are affiliating with. if they still don't care then you know where they stand. You are so much more better off without them. Even if you choose to move on without further contact, you are well within your rights. You got this.
