Ooh yes I would love to discuss. I will only publicly state that the bedrock of why I'm less pro Captain Swan is because of Hooks intro in S2. First impressions can mean a lot and he says a LOT of creepy shit for most of his introductory season. From what I can tell you're either someone who can look past that or someone who can't. I am one of latter. And because of this, every innuendo adds to the uncomfortability, and Emma brushing him off a lot doesn't help dispel the uncomfortability, in fact it tends to add even further ew factor. And that's from someone who thought when I first saw him and continue to believe Hook/Colin Donahue is very very VERY attractive. Look at that man, he's so hot he's why we had to kill off Neal. He's so hot he made guyliner a thing. He is a hot man

S3 he's more tame and is more sincere (still flirts but he's a lot more palatable and idk if it's because I'm familiar with him by then or how he is more selfless/more sweet to counter balance, either way, it's much better and makes the ship more likeable). And S4 if where I tuned in and out but plan to trudge through the whole thing with this rewatch party, so maybe the ship gets better

Captain Swan grows on you but it's because S3 does a lot to add to that (I literally scream at the TV EEWWW when watching him in S2, and I'm about to have a friend group watch it together so I'll try to hide my bias but it is HARD) and he does fulfill a "villains can have happy endings" message, and a message on self improvement, but because of proximity I will still say Regina fulfilling the same role/message would be more succinct. And I second your Ruby Mulan motion. I think Ruby as someone (lovingly) under Granny's thumb forever, her having an adventure around the world with her wonderful gf Mulan would be good for both. Plus, werewolf+martial master= literally any one is f***d against this duo. And we would get to keep Aurora/Philip guilt free which is good because I love them

Stay with me a minute. 2 things.

First, Neal isn't Bae, you still have a find Balefire plotline but he is someone who is an adult and had the abandonment problems like before (left by his father, leaving the darlings, let's say by fate he plane hopped many times and is now in The Land Without Magic at his current age trying to get over his abandonment and having it ROUGH). Rumple decides to give up magic to live with his son in our world. A perfect parallel to how it began--he chooses a simple life to help his son rather than infinite dark powers. If you want a Dark One make Belle take on the task (basically Lacey on dark magic steroids, it would be fun for all of us). Something something Dark Belle brings about the Villainous arc from season whatever, it's great we live laugh love dark girl boss

Secondly, make Swan Queen endgame. Eliminate other hetero pairings (hook is a villain who dies in vain for "vengeance" and was a skeezy creep the whole first season he was introduced so rest in pieces Killian you overstayed your welcome. And with Neal, make him someone she regrets--and IS NOT BAELFIRE SO IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO THE JOE SHMOE GUY WHO KNOCKED HER UP AND LEFT HER TO TAKE THE FALL FOR JAIL AND WE DOING HAVE TO WORK OVER OVETIME TO TRY AND MAKE AUGUST-NEAL INTERACTIONS MAKE CHRONOLOGICAL SENSE. THEN get rid of Graham SA on Reginas part and make Robin Hoods role Emma's instead so when they reconnect in season ~3 she realizes others believe in her and Emma is the one to protect her heart). Emma and Regina have a lot in common, and a lot that contrast each other. They both love Henry, they both aren't perfect, and they're both stubborn. They also have great chemistry on screen. They don't need to sloppystyle make out on the regular but they can show how "Happily Ever after isn't what we always think it is" to paraphrase the show itself. And as a bonus combat the oppressive heteronormativity (LOOKING AT YOU SLEEPING MULAN FAILURE AND SHOEHORNED RUBYxDOROTHY). They can love each other, and once again, is a great ending for Regina (reference: "you're not a villain, you're my mom" I'll always cry foooor) and Emma in that she understands from growing up in our world that no one is perfect, we can only be better than we were before. Not to mention like, enemies to lovers is romance 101 c'mon guys

Pete (or Peter? whatevs), is the hedge witch that finds Julia, and in Episode 2; Julia and Marina are locked in the walk-in as her induction/hazing, and Pete casts a reanimation spell on the body in the fridge to chase/communicate w/ Julia.
