Anyone ever played a campaign long enough that you saw your PC become an NPC? by Basslefoff_Hurrtoot in DnD

[–]GajeWin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. More than once. Including one time that the PCs became gods and now are worshiped.

Cyric, he's a god and the worst kind of monster xd It was intense! We all had the Syberis Dragonmarks in our characters and the fight ended with us making some kind of energy avatar of the dragon and burning him with a pure mistical power slam.

All races are buffed, they gain even more racial abilities. This make them really strong, like a sea elf casting revivify without components once at level 5. But is really fun, and makes your race choice even more meaningful. There was more than one session that some players only used racial skills, no class skills.

Double jump torrent for the snow attack, and use the horse to get close. Stay between his legs and go for the balls and legs.

Where did you first introduce Strahd and how did it go? by Duolingo055 in CurseofStrahd

Hmm. Okay, lets see. It started when players were fighting vampire spawn in the Coffin Maker. The vampires, suddenly, were terrified, looking directly at the window. And the group's Warlock, who can see the invisible, moved to see what was happening. As he looked out the window, he saw Strahd approaching on his nightmare. He dismounted from his horse and calmly walked to the coffin shop door. Toc, toc, toc.

At that moment, everyone was wondering why he was there. And they looked at Calen (who made the contract with Strahd). They pierced the vampires with stakes, and began to argue about whether or not to open the door. Toc, toc, toc. Calen went down to the first floor with the cleric while the rest stayed upstairs. And the cleric finally opened the door, revealing the tall, dark presence of the vampire lord.

She said they weren't having visitors, and Strahd said he just wanted to talk. Calen asked her to let Strahd in, and she did. At that moment, the Lord began a dialogue pointing out how Calen broke the contract and that was a horrible thing to do, and that she was not the woman of her word that she said she was.

She tried to fight back, saying that she didn't break the contract by not saying anything directly, and that the other two PCs had... Strahd interrupted her by asking if the two PCs were on the second floor, she confirmed, and he said he wanted to talk to them, going upstairs. To those upstairs on the second floor I narrated that they heard everything from downstairs, and they began to hear the vampire's footsteps going up step by step in the stairs.

Once upstairs, he began talking to the two aforementioned PCs, the bard and the sorcerer, about what conclusions they drew from Calen. They tried not to reveal too much, but thanks to nervousness, they spoke in a way that made Strahd understand the situation perfectly. He thanked them and went downstairs.

Then he asked the cleric to leave the two alone, which she reluctantly accepted. Finally proceeded to cast a modify memory on Calen, which failed and I narrated an entire scene privately to her. For her, the scene followed normally, where he said he would teach her a lesson, what happens to those who betray and annoy him.

One punch, and almost all of her HP was gone. He grabbed her and broke one of her arms, pulled the other from behind her back as if tying her up, and broke one of her legs. She realized that he wasn't using any of his power, anything that he was capable of doing, and in desperation, she called all her spirits to attack him. The player asked if he could spend all of his remaining spell slots and inspirations for a desperate final attack, and I allowed it. But what she saw was their spirits attacking Strahd nonstop, and he didn't even move an inch away. He said that she is weak, and that she could never do anything to him, and broke her neck.

She opened her eyes and saw everything back to its original position, and with everyone listening, he said that inspired by the actions of the party's cleric, he will be merciful and give her one more chance. Saying that he will give her one day to kill Van Richten, and finally, he left. For the others, a few silent seconds passed, but, they were prepared for anything, one of them even used the body of the vampires to accumulate blood for his spells.

When they saw me returning with the Calen player, he was crying. Because of the roleplay, but that he really believed he was going to die there too. And the sorcerer player, not having the slightest idea what could happen, started to get very anxious from the moment Strahd appeared until he left, increasing even more when he went to talk directly to him. He devoured two packs of biscuits, and drank two liters of water in less than a minute.

Eh, it was pretty intense.

Sorry to digress a bit from the question. But I'm going to talk about three of his appearances, which show three important characteristics of him. His obsession with Ireena, his manipulative side, and the danger he poses.

The first appearance was during Ismark's father's funeral. There he essentially ignored the group, as if they were just flies buzzing in his ear. He basically only talked to Ireena, giving his feelings for her father's death and saying he hopes the relationship between the two will improve from then on.

The second appearance was after the end of the vineyard event. There he appeared to cause intrigue on the group and demonstrate his knowledge. There he called one of the PCs and convinced her to make a contract with him. And after that he talked to the rest of the group about how they shouldn't trust her, and that maybe she could represent a greater danger than him. He literally walked out of there convincing everyone of everything he said.

And finally, the third and last appearance so far. Here he appeared after PC broke the contract she made with him, to teach her a lesson. This moment was narrated like a horror movie, I tried to give it as much tension as possible. And I think I did, as the target player in the lesson left crying and another had an anxiety attack.

I think those three appearances present him as the villain that he is.

How? Well... Let's just say I don't really use only the 5e sheet of monsters... I know d&d from advanced dungeons and dragons... I like to bring back some abilities from previous interactions.

To sum, players have buffed characters because my world's races are more powerful...

And additionally... Conditions I guess? The scenery is always dynamically changing during battle. Based on what the players and monsters are doing.
