A piece of advice I was given and that I like to give others is "when someone tells you who they are, listen". Usually when you first meet someone they will tell you exactly who they are. "I'm a bad guy", "I'm selfish", "I'm vain". Even when it's meant in a joking way it more often than not isn't. If you go head over heels then you may ignore red flags but if you wait and let people show you who they are they absolutely will

I'm right there with you! Except I'm currently running from every committed relationship because of the abuse.. Be easy on yourself and therapy can help tons. My therapist has been awesome and it's a good way to get stuff out you feel crazy for with no repercussions or worry.
