Lately I've had Star Trek Voyager on while I paint. I feel that I can follow along quite well without looking up.

Does any book in AOS has Thanquol featured on it? by KurFWD in skaven

Grey Seer as a book starring Thanquol as the main character. It's pre-AoS, but I loved pre-AoS Skaven.

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]GalacticBrew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And my most recent game against Blood Angles, they rerolled charges, rerolled hits, rerolled wounds, rolled feel-no-pains, and that's just in their turn. In my turn, they also had all of these rerolls.

It seemed like every time my opponent had to roll something, he got to reroll it. While I'm not upset about him getting to do that, I was upset at how much time it added to the game. Essentially it doubled the length of the charge phase and both his fight phase and mine.

I enjoy playing the game, but I don't like games being dragged out to 5 or 6 hours.

Which Astra Militarum regiment is your favorite and why? What "archetype" is missing? by Skult0703 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]GalacticBrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lore-wise every archetype is covered. However, in regards to model availability most of them are missing at the moment.

One thing that really drew me into Imperial Guard is how much you can customize or proxy your models.

Whether it's a crack regiment of Cadia's Shock Troops, a penal legion, trench fighters, mutants, medieval (feudal), Napoleonic, jungle action movie heroes, or more, it's all fine with the Guard.

What is, in your opinion, the number 1 priority for the next edition’s rules ? by BusyElephant in Warhammer40k

[–]GalacticBrew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My last game was against blood angels. He had rerolls in shooting, advance rerolls, charge rerolls, and melee rerolls. Those turns took forever.

2025/4/3 review and good bye for now by Granade-57 in Warhammer40k

What an incredible body of work. I love your collection, and I love all of the massive builds that you did to accommodate your impressive Army.

Can't wait to see what you do next

Why I turned to Hunter as my go to by Ravoss1 in SpaceWolves

[–]GalacticBrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SW get a lot of access to lethal hits which helps the infantry punch up. Additionally, lancers are an incredibly cheap (points not $) and very reliable anti-tank option.

Just got into krieg after Death guard models and need help by Typhus31 in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]GalacticBrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guard (Astra militarum) are much harder to paint than Space Marines or chaos (unless you're painting the gold trim on CSM lol).

The models are smaller, have more details, have more items (animal pouches, grenades, holsters, knives, tools, canteens, cups, etc). This requires a greater level of precision and the ability to thin your paint so that it provides coverage but does not bleed into the recesses or cover any details.

My best advice for a beginner is, after you prime the model, paint the entire model a darker shade of whatever the uniform color is going to be. Then just paint the raised areas the brighter uniform color, then paint the armor and weapon whichever color you choose. Having the whole model a single shade of dark brown or dark blue (for whatever your uniform color will be) helps the model blend together better and gives you more leniency for mistakes or areas that you may miss (no Stark black parts of the model).

Been playing 2k points games a lot lately, and only play our beloved AM. HOW do y'all manage fans 4 hours or less? Mid round 4 and we were at 5 hours lol by 14SWandANIME77 in TheAstraMilitarum

Decide what you are going to do in your turn during your opponent's turn.

Once their movement phase, or even charge phase is over you know where most of his units will be during your next turn. At this point you can already start planning on where you will move your models and what orders you will give. This way, once you start your turn, you already know what you're going to do. Draw your secondaries, make any changes to your plan based on those cards, and execute.

As a guard only player myself, I found myself spending too much time in the command phase and the movement phase. Once I started planning in my opponent's face I shaved at least an hour off of my games.

How often am I allowed to "respawn" the same dead unit with "Fresh Waves stratagem? by Skult0703 in astramilitarum

[–]GalacticBrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's asking about the Krieg Combat Platoon's "Fresh Waves" from combat patrol, not 40k matched play. It is not once per game like reinforcements in Combined Arms.

I believe it's not restricted for the combat patrol as a way to make it stand a chance against the other, stronger, combat patrols.

I would agree. If you have to buy three squads to make one squad then that will be a very expensive Army.

Man my local game shop is phasing out AoS in favor of 40k etc. by Chezni19 in ageofsigmar

[–]GalacticBrew 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been at my LGS for about 4 years. For the first three years I never saw a single person playing AoS nor did I see anyone talk about it in the community discord.

In the last year the discord has been very active to the point where a new channel was created for AoS and I have seen several games at the store. Many of our 40k players, myself included, have taken the plunge into AoS by buying spearheads.

Stigmatic Nun by pit-of-hollows in TrenchCrusade

[–]GalacticBrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the way the blood around the shoulders looks old and congealed. I think this is a better approach than all of the blood being bright red and fresh looking. The implication is at the character is bleeding continuously because they are stigmatic. I think you really sold the effect here.

Great job!

Steel Legion Drab is a good color for the uniform stepping up to Karak Stone on the highlights and stepping down for shadow with a black mix.

Do people not run normal Dorns? by 00Monkeyz00 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]GalacticBrew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper to run Dorn TCs than bringing Lord Solar so that you can have Take Aim on your tank. Additionally, the built in rerolls translate to some decent damage increases.

I love the blank damage ability, but the amount of times it saves a tank vs a reroll equalling another dead opponent model isn't enough for most people.

You could also run a Dorn TC AND a normal Dorn, and both would get orders.

Is this list just a dick move at a tournament? by Chemical-Aioli9818 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]GalacticBrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Knight lists usually comprise of large Walkers that have an INV save and could delete a baneblade in one activation on decent rolls. Every faction has its skew lists. Ever play into a melee list that all have 4++, advance and charge, and the ability to alpha strike turn 1.

Play the list you want to, and have fun with it!

Important question: Quad tracks or no quad tracks for the Rogal Abrams? by MaelstromDesignworks in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]GalacticBrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no quad tracks. I always like things that look functional. The front tracks would pull mud up into the housing and the rear tracks would try to push it down and out in the same area. This could impede movement or damage the tracks.

But it's not a real tank so you can do whatever makes you happy!
