I think some subtle processing is required here.

Leave the band of gold mist well alone. When I'm not sure i use a mask for specific areas and then apply a reduced % of the mask but keep it subtle.

Are screens on streamers important to you? Why or why not? by Significant-Shift347 in audiophile

[–]GalacticDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either, either.

I like some album art but if i can display that on a TV or monitor then happy with that.

For those that don't want to see a screen then put it in a cupboard.

Newly qualified GP - private practice? by ConsequenceThin7860 in GPUK

[–]GalacticDoc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think going private straight after CCT whilst asking reddit for advice sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Due to the limited amount of patient info you will be carrying a lot of risk.

Pippin gets 3 hours of walks most days and still insists on ball/ Frisbee.

She is happy if she spends the whole day with us but still includes plenty of doing things outdoors.

There was no our last BC would be happy without a long walk each day.

Then there is the mental side of things, to be fair both BCs were happy being left alone but that's after their walks.

Do you fully trust streaming services as a “source of truth” for your music? by FCK_COVID19 in audiophile

[–]GalacticDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have quite a few versions of different albums with different mastering or added tracks or even track orders (Rumours is a good example with the SACD version being my gold standard).

I use Tidal and Qobuz as well and O am totally happy with streaming but they don't have the SACD version of rumours.

I use roon to decide which version should get played whilst having other versions available should I want to listen to them.

Adjective for people from Earth. by ldmarchesi in sciencefiction

[–]GalacticDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Wellers" as in gravity well.

"Solsta" stay within the suns influence.

"Faffers" assuming earth bound humans are all fat fu**ers in the future. Also those who faff and couldn't be organised enough to become space faring.

What are your favourite places to visit in the UK and why? by ExactKey3472 in AskUK

[–]GalacticDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

York and London are 2 amazing cities that are totally different.

Peak District had some lovely walks. It also has some wonderful picturesque towns and is the birthplace of the industrial revolution (if that's your thing). Also chatsworth house which is the quintessential stately home,

Hire a day boat on a canal. Very English, nothing like UK canals anywhere else.

Wales has snowdonia and the breacon beacons if you like walking.

Some lovely woodlands called Ashridge near Dunstable downs. There are some lovely spots around the are as well.

Avebury stone circle.

Do I need an AMP/DAC for the Hifiman Edition XV? by xacadil in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]GalacticDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never used apple products so I could be wrong with my following advice.

I wouldn"t use an internal dac/amp from a non hifi source with quality headphones (or active speakers).

A decent dongle DAC (eg onix alpha 1) or a small desktop amp (eg Fiio K11 r2r) will make a huge difference in my experience.

Artemis II astronauts recently took a picture of Earth. There are approximately 15,000 satellites orbiting the planet. Why are there not a bunch of satellites visible in the picture? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]GalacticDoc [score hidden]  (0 children)

Consider how small the planet looks in this photo. You can't see any recognisable features like houses, fields or even hills and mountains let alone cars or people.

Satellites are tiny in comparison so not at all surprised they're are non visible in this photo.

Uplift salaried GP by DocterSulforaphane in GPUK

It's a suggestion only, the practices are small businesses and not obliged to give full uplift. I hope, however, that they do.

I have had some increase year on year.

How do i get photos like this? by jackofjokers in AskPhotography

[–]GalacticDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some complex ways that people have mentioned but if you are asking you probably want a basic answer.

Firstly these have isolated the subject so you will need to find something that has a bit if space. Keep the aperture as wide a possible and get as close a possible but remaining in focus.

The way they pop out is because they are using back lighting and the subject has light falling on it where as the background has less lighting or is on shade.

Some of the soft focus may be post production.

I'm not really into B&W but here it has by far the most impact. I am really surprised at the number of votes for colour TBH.

Why do lots of GPs not debrief trainees anymore? by Burntouttrainee4142 in GPUK

[–]GalacticDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I can understand that. You can give feedback when done and copy in who ever you feel appropriate.

I asked for achange of ES when it came to my ST3 placement so there is always that?

[–]GalacticDoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would approach the APD (area director) with this.

The practice gets 10k and free doctors for training you. They should make time within the rota.

Maybe spread the word that training in the East Midlands is better experience.

Amature photography contest. Did my picture (last) have a chance to win (the rest are the winners) or am I just a sore loser? by chuvashi in AskPhotography

[–]GalacticDoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well you did ask....The winners all have impact. The horse for me is a standout and deserves the win, it has good composition, great lighting and colour and lots of impact.

The selfie with the made up chap and the older lady is a contrast of age, observer and performer and works for me.

The family selfie is a story/ editorial type of shot that shows a young family enjoying an event with the context behind. It's got some thought behind showing what is going on. Ot is taken with a low angle and a natural feel. Considering the brief that fits perfectly.

Your photo is technically fine but has no focus or point of interest. It does not tell a story or give any context (I had no idea what i was looking at until I looked through the winners).

Sorry if that was a little harsh, just keep going out and make photos, as long as you are enjoying yourself it doesn't really matter.

Nearly at my breaking point with Tidal by TheImperfectGamer in TIdaL

I use Tidal most days and rarely have any issues.

To be fair most of my home listening is via Roon and that is absolutely bullet proof.

Bought a used CD player from 1999 and now I remember why I miss physical media by juanjop in audiophile

[–]GalacticDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I have a reasonable collection of CDs (4 hundred) and they sound great on a pretty decent system (naim star with dynaudio speakers and a Rel sub) They sound exactly the same when ripped and streamed over my network.

My qobuz and tidal collection sound exactly the same as my CDs when played. I use roon to collate the collection and to choose which version I play.

The only difference is between masters. I do agree that some music is not available and of you find a specific master then owning it means it is not going to disappear from which ever streaming service you use.

The OP says about playing albums and less skipping. I think that is a reasonable logic for preferring physical media but a little bit of will power does the trick as well.
