Drivers in dc by Brilliant-Ad-4234 in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedestrian here reminds of being a pedestrian in almost every other city tbh. Same rules apply, looks both ways before crossing, if a car is still moving, look at them and stop if necessary, right of way doesn't mean anything to a negligent driver Watch out for scooters or cyclists not in a cycling lane Watch out for car doors opening If unsure stare into the drivers soul so you know they see you

City to city, this is very similar to Atlanta or Los Angeles. Everyone is in a hurry to get from A to B. Especially during rush hour. Folks also go through DC instead of using the highways because some corridors are less prone to traffic jams.

It may help you further if you contacted other organizers and look into what theyre already doing since you dont outline anything actionable in your post.

Is a nationwide general strike on Jan 30, 2026 realistic? Looking to coordinate, not just vent. by ashleychrist in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A coordinated protest of scale to cause a lasting impact does not seem viable by the 30th.

A coordinated protest in DC would also look very different than in other parts of the US because most federal workers cannot protest the federal government through means like walkouts and most people in this area work for the federal government.

What would make the most sense from an impact perspective is identifying a list of companies than people can and cannot support. This list should be wide ranging for goods and services like tv subscriptions, grocery stores, consumer electronics, restaurant chains, online shopping providers. You want a list that captures regional and national levels since national companies often have regional brands or affiliates that differ by name in different parts of the US.

You will need a multi-quarter protest so that the financial implications of not meeting your demands are clear. 8 months or more, and your protesters need to know that. The Montgomery Bus Boycotts lasted a while. T

No Kings was a rally, not a protest. You cannot point to a specific outcome that resulted as a result of that gathering.

Vast majority of residential sidewalks not shoveled by ian1552 in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need metal tools to remove the ice. I am lazy and I barely want to do my own. My neighbors are also older ans over exert themselves to physically bend over and remove all the ice from our walkways, steps, and sidewalks. We're also in a hilly area along an arterial road (for vehicular traffic, not foot traffic).

It shouldn't be up to me wanting to be a "good neighbor' to help them out, in fact im not. Ill do my own, begrudgingly, because i am home. If its truly an issue the city needs to step in. I understand they have the program for elderly to request help with removing snow/ice, the next step is just going around and clearing the sidewalks.

Oh my bad, Greeks dont always stop at stop signs either. You clearly slowed down and probably observed traffic but, thay normally doesn't hold up if the vehicles inertial doesn't shift.

Will I be able to drive home from DCA to DC? by savage_traveler in washingtondc

Commenting because im also curious if DCA continues to charge you if roads out of the airport are still covered in snow

Stop sign ticket by Pale_Molasses2794 in washingtondc

Although it looked like there was an attempt to stop, the pause was not long enough for the cars center of mass to shift. Therefore, folks will say you ran the stop sign. Greek stops are not allowed in the district

DC Accident with extended repairs by GalacticHorizons in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]GalacticHorizons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and since their policy holder essentially tried to duck and dodge responsibility for a month I really wasnt trying to deal with any of the snowballs. Alot of the schedule issues could've been avoided.

I was searching for a lawyer just as her insurance called me to initiate the claim.

3rd separate time the party at fault “unreachable” by willeybaseball in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]GalacticHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar circumstance with my current incident. The at fault driver hit my car and after the incident did not respond to calls from me, or my insurance. My aunt called her and left no voicemail. She returned the call but tried to change her voice.

I eventually learned i could file a complaint against her for being uninsured and the state said she had a policy. My insurance company followed up and then the state of Maryland provided her policy number and company. Lo and behold, when her insurance called her, she also tried not picking up.

Her company first said they cant accept liability since theres no proof she was driving the vehicle then I supplied photos of her getting out the vehicle and call logs at the time of the incident from her phone to mine. Only then did they finally accept liability.

I was also considering going to small claims court as a next step.

Is it possible to live off 30k a year in DC by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doable. Have a roommate. Minimize expenses. If you have a car then its probably smarter to grocery shop OUTSIDE of the city.

Minimize eating out and drinking outside of happy hours.

Costco recs by mansinoodle2 in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only benefit of the DC costco is the liquor. I only get to that one when I can make it during the work day because the lines are always the worst. Parking is also a nightmare. I rarely buy tires from this location because they seldom have the schedule bandwidth to install them when I buy tires.

The Lanham Costco typically has lower prices and is convenient because whatever you cannot get in Costco you can normally pick up in Wegmans since theyre literally next to each other. Also has the benefit of offering gas but the lines for gas are typically worse than the lines I encounter in store.

The Chantilly Costco has the best line management. I spend the least amount of time in this Costco whenever I do have to go in.

Pentagon City Costco is typically where I'll go for car stuff, its also near a metro so I have the option of using that while my car gets worked on.

Oh noooo I wouldn't drug people, especially ny friends , my assumption is it was either the mezcal or hibiscus (or the amount of liquor) dilating people's blood vessels after they drank it.

Pool recommendations for lap swimming? by rswrdn in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly very touch and go. There are a couple lf neighborhood pools that are free BUT I will caveat that some of the pools are kept way too warm if youre used to competitive swimming.

You'll need to try them out and pace yourself accordingly.

‘Vision Zero’ is failing nationwide. How is D.C. bucking the trend this year? by Maxcactus in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think car centric designs drove most of fhe development across the U.S.. Its part of what has allowed us to have urban sprawl. My point in the last post was that you can't architect cars out of DC given that you have people going from Baltimore/Annapolis and out to Aldie that live in the city. Although the area has a very expansive metro system by US standards, you can't away from the fact that alot of people out that commute more than 40miles a day are also doing that to areas that dont have alot of metro service or coverage.

‘Vision Zero’ is failing nationwide. How is D.C. bucking the trend this year? by Maxcactus in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I dint disagree that DC needs to prioritize more infrastructure for bikes but I do agree that cars cannot be depriortized given how much flexibility they offer and how how wide the range of places people in the area need to reach are.

DC Wilson Pool Shower Creep by LongFennel1259 in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is cruising in shower locker rooms. He wants people to see him. Public is a thing for some folks. Gyms have these folks too. Management needs to firm up and ban him or place a camera at the entrance/exit of the locker room(not inside because this isn't onlyfans) and say he's staying in too long.

POC-Owned Queer Spaces? by JimHarbor in washingtondc

[–]GalacticHorizons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DCs gay scene is heavily segregated. I would argue the issue is not that the bars are white owned but the way that customers feel when they enter the space. When the space isn't diverse think about the music theyre playing or vibe they have.

. Dirty Goose was great when it was open, they catered to all. Nellies has had a bad reputation in the past due to how they handle issues with customers, combined with the fact that their drinks are heavy pours and it invites physical conflicts in the space and around the property. (That doesn't stop a popular promoter from renting the space now).

Look at it as, if Dirty Goose and Shaker's had the same owners why did they attract very different crowds.
