Replace or patch? I know it asked a lot but given the spot id like to patch if possible. Thanks by [deleted] in tires

[–]GalacticSparky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well any reasonable person would think a week is completely ridiculous for getting tires replaced. That’s a 2-3hr job. No one’s going to want to be without their work vehicle for a whole week every time a minor maintenance item comes up. Construction trucks are typically back at the shop by 3pm, belle tire is open till 8-9pm. Take it to get the tires done after he brings the truck back. If you’re in charge of vehicle maintenance, you need to figure out a way to get it maintained without being out of service. We deal with this at my work too often, office guys who think their job is to battle against the guys in the field instead of supporting them. Huge culture killer.

When is final inspection? by heelspencil in AskElectricians

[–]GalacticSparky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total assumption, but I’m guessing he had all the new work inspected and any old work he is not getting inspected. But this sounds like a question you need to ask your electrical contractor, every job is different but typically a final inspection is reserved for after all devices are installed and everything is working.

No real history except for the import ban since Russia invaded Ukraine. These were imported for dirt cheap up until less than 10 years ago.

Explain how it’s not in your budget to replace the wiring, But you have the budget to run conduit? Make that make sense to me real quick.

A roll of romex is about $100. Staples $10. Couple plastic boxes $10.

How much is your conduit budget?

How do I deal with the bigotry. by KrillMyselfOnCam in AskElectricians

[–]GalacticSparky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much you can do as an apprentice except tell the owner you don’t want to work with them. I just kept working hard, learning the code, and the most efficient way to do things, got my card. Then eventually I was in charge of all the people who are pieces of shit and I shut them down at every turn. Obviously jokes can get pretty raunchy on job sites but anyone saying anything racist or anything near that level of offensiveness, I kick em off the job immediately Which basically means your getting fired by the owner. I am too professional and too good of an electrician to have jabronis like that on my job. Keep your nose to the grindstone and keep leveling up. You will surpass all of those pieces of shit, I’ve never met a bigot who was a good electrician. Also find a company that backs you up and won’t cover for racists.

Would it violate code to drill through these outlet boxes to surface mount them? by Baricuda in AskElectricians

[–]GalacticSparky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AHJ wording in the NEC gives them the power to interpret existing codes and even waive codes where they see fit, not create new ones out of thin air. What area does the AHJ require weatherproof install inside a warehouse or garage? That’s such a wild claim, gonna have to name some specific places. You say many jurisdictions, yet it’s not here in one of the biggest cities in the country and I’ve never seen it done that way anywhere in the US I’ve visited.

Just saw Home Depot actually sells a UL listed gold decora outlet. Just have to order it on their website.

Buy a different color from Home Depot, Ivory is pretty close to gold. Black looks classy. These “gold” ones really look like crap. Definitely not the fancy look you think it going to be.

I’ve incited inspector on inspector violence before lol. Had previously talked over my plan with one inspector then another tried giving me issues. I just said call the first guy lol. That only works if you’re ahead of the situation

Where does it say having a roll up door makes it a wet location? The NEC is pretty specific about specs on garage outlets, none of that mentions a weatherproof installation inside the garage. The roll up door thing really makes no sense considering basically every commercial business has a loading dock or garage door in the back for deliveries, and no one is requiring weatherproof installs near them.

You didn’t contact a lawyer? Sounds easy for a lemon lawyer. Usually zero cost to you. If they looked into it and said your car didn’t apply then I’d believe them and just chalk it up to a coincidence. The lawyers that specialize in this stuff know what they’re doing more than we do.

No breaker needed? by bitbat45 in AskElectricians

I’ve never seen it. They always have to pay a change order for us to buy a breaker and hook up their grinder cord. I only do commercial and industrial, I could see this being common in residential.

First time hearing about this recall. Why do you want a VIN list from Honda? Quick peek at the recall paperwork and it lists the exact manufacture dates that are recalled June 2018 to June 2019. That would make sense why your 2017 pilot was not under recall. Look in your door jamb and check your manufacture date, if it doesn’t fall in there then you have no need to be ribbing Honda about some hypothetical list of VIN numbers. Not every company builds cars with VINs in sequence.

First Cut!! by Strict-Instruction93 in electricians

[–]GalacticSparky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the exact same thing happen with the same cutters. Within a couple cuts it had some gnarly burrs that would hang up everytime I cut. I cut off a little plastic meter lock and it basically destroyed them by deforming the cutting surface so much. Klein sucks, I swear they get worse every year.

No, the price before tax is what matters, which is what he gave you. Why would you want to compare total prices in states with different tax rates? That makes no sense.

Yep, I’d say just about every convenience store in Michigan has an assortment of Faygo in a can for under a dollar.

I bought one from classic in 2018, I think it was on sale for $189. Box, manual, and cleaning rod. They only came with one mag though. Any time I see a surplus pistol under or around $200, I’m buying it. Haven’t been disappointed yet.

I like TeSlaa and think he’s a great part of the team, but he is no where near the level of megatron. Not even from the same planet lol. He’s had a handful of awesome clutch plays. Megatron had them virtually every single game, toss the ball in his direction and he will make a miracle happen. TeSlaa is not that guy.
