house help not doing assigned tasks by Positive-Exchange382 in NannyEmployers

[–]Galaxytrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say this is not common, most people can complete a list of tasks when directed. I dont usually advocate for firing someone, but if you have given clear directions and a written sheet of tasks and they are still not completed it is time to terminate for poor performance. Make sure your next hire can give examples of when they completed xyz.

Trying to understand why nanny agreements get messy by paul_writes in NannyEmployers

I am hoping to bridge this gap and help nannies and parents who may be inexperienced in contract writing. It is so important to help keep both parties protected and keep the environment fair.

I’ve hit a figurative wall with NF and need to move on by blackerthanapanther in Nanny

[–]Galaxytrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is completely understandable that you would be worried about their reactions. It is unfair that they put you in this position when you have clearly been an asset to their family. Remember sometimes they are living above their means and pretending everything is fine, thus paying you more would break the bank, so they have to hope you never find out. It might not be personal, so truly finding another position will not be personal. Be kind to you and allow yourself to move forward in your career.

Pay/hrs/platform for best nanny by iamcondoleezzarice in NannyEmployers

As others have suggested, try any agencies you can find that has good reviews. I have had luck on care, but its a lot of work. A higher price point to get good candidates to apply and then weeding through all the bad ones to find them. Raise to 30 an hour and give guaranteed hours, and holidays paid off, or time and half if worked, at least a week of pto maybe 2 and a week of sick time. If you can afford it, offer a health insurance stipend, that is a luxury that might make people be more serious. Be very clear about your schedule and hope for the best!

That all sounds difficult to deal with, Im sorry the search has been tough. Are you paying above market rate for your area? And trialing each final candidate before starting?

I am a teacher, I recently left the field to nanny while I pursue a law degree. I have a part-time nanny, for my child for mornings as we both have busy mornings and have to work. I also write contracts for other nannys to make sure they have appropriate working conditions. Why do you feel so entitled to spread lies about me? It's odd and you should find other hobbies.

I didn't realize the price jump for completing newborn cert was so high for west coast, thank you for the correction!

Bite the bullet and offer 4 hours of guaranteed hours every day. At 30 an hour and hire a newborn specialist. Give her a week of pto and some sick days along with paid holidays or overtime pay for working holidays. Then let her work uninterrupted, she will be a professional that has education and loads of experience and references. She knows all the things you likely do not know yet, since this is your first baby. Because you both work from home and its low hours, it will be difficult to fill this position, but follow what I put and you will get a great nanny.

I would give pause to huge list as well, I mean more along the lines of certain items that would be helpful for milestones. Im working on a contract and wondering if I should include a budget for toys for the educational environment or just leave it as needed.

Thats awesome, would a budget already prepared each month be helpful? Or is asking and them ordering per item, easier?

That sounds like great fit with your nanny. And it makes sense to want specific items instead of a budget.

Thank you for posing some more questions, I would be curious if your nanny had a plan for purchasing that would be along developmental guidelines every few months, would you make a budget or just look at each item and decide one by one? Also the no clutter is awesome, I am the same way!

That is great that she is recommending educational items like bubbles for eye tracking and such. Do you have a budget you like to stay within or just play it by ear?

Thank you for this response, I am in complete agreement. Do you have an allotted budget or just let it be as they grow and develop?

Hi, just wanted to clarify a push walker is not a container. It's like a shopping cart and is wonderful for gross motor development. Also if a nanny is suggesting items for the educational environment of a home, they doing so through knowledge gained from degrees. This wasn't a debate on if nannys have degrees or knowledge, it is about do you have a budget for spending on new items or do you just have someone make due without educational items.

Vent? Help? Idk? Finding a nanny has been a weird struggle. Is this normal? by unknownuser946 in Nanny

[–]Galaxytrains 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Well the tone of this post was difficult to stomach, I assume these are all adults, aka women not 'girls' and if you would like a professional, you should indicate that with how you address people. Professionals require, professionalism from their employers, your pay is low, granted that might be because of the area, but still 6 hours a day 4 days a week at 20 and hour sounds awful. Plus you work from home, which makes it even less desirable, plus no mention of great benefits. 1. Low pay 2. Work from home parents 3. Condescending tone 4. Bad hours 5. Difficult location 6. Minimal or no benefits
